Re: A Colheita/Aged Tawny 2016 Tasting in London

Count me in for this and also maybe a +1 as a friend of mine has a particular fondness for this category (and has some decent bottles to boot). If we are to be honoured by the presence of Mr Tawny himself (ie Glenn) then we'd better be prepared to bring out some big guns (in tawny terms) :D

Re: BBR port walk - 2015

Who is going to this on the Thursday? I received an email from BBR asking who I want to be seated with and who my guest is. Am I bringing a guest? If so, please could my guest remind me who they are? That would be me Alex (you kindly secured the last ticket then available whilst we were both presen...

Re: 1985 horizontal: Wed 25th Nov 2015, B&F

Much as I would like to see the F85 Mag, the deeper that we're able to go into this horizontal the better for me and so agree with the inclusion of the Ch (which I recall being rather good when Glenn came over last year) and the Ca. Food Order (and a departure from recently): Starter-Potted Shrimps ...

My thoughts for the weekend's matches (and not a word about them on the BBC Breakfast sport this morning although plenty on the NFL!):

-Can't see the Boks getting within 10 of the ABs

-Pumas to down the Wallabies

I will almost certainly have to send out my daughter as my 'runner' (I briefed her the other day but Peppa Pig was on and so not sure how much she digested) but of those not currently listed I can offer both Burmester and Churchill in Mags and RP in standard.

May of course be a coincidence but looks like these are now being offered for sale at Seckfords- and at a fair premium to boot.

Must admit to being fed up with the expression "glorious failure'. On the way to the Wales game on Saturday I was telling myself please not it be another such occasion as it's happened way too many times to be a coincidence. Some teams are simply better at closing down games and whilst I really...

I'm at a meeting that day but should be able to accommodate and so count me in.

Should it be blind-I'd be happy with sighted but will go with the flow.

Agree with Derek, shame for the fans although the Rugby purists will be able to enjoy rest of the tournament without the hype but more to the point, what's the Daily Telegraph going to do now in order to sell copy!

Re: Taylor's UK agents

An odd bottle. Accompanied by three Croft 60's and a '72 crusted, the auction lot included a bottle of Taylor's First Estate. The modern stencilling on the bottle could have come straight off the shelves of Tesco, but the capsule is rather plain and the wine has lost some colour. I studied the bott...

Re: 75@40

Personally, I'd be happy to taste a G75 or D75 Mg alongside the standard* format to ascertain the difference in evolution between the two and if we're after the inclusion of S75 and haven't got the standard* format then there seems no harm in including the S75 Mg. *by 'standard' I of course mean eve...

I do hope so. I will be elsewhere tomorrow night but certainly will soon be in need of emergency aid. I anticipate an emergency occurring on or around 8th October.

And count me in when you do Alex :D

Re: 1985 horizontal: Wed 25th Nov 2015, B&F

For the 97 horizontal I believe we had 21 bottles between 12 in one session over three flights and so 16 bottles between 9 ought to be doable (one session, two flights) especially as the 85s are going to be more accessible (from a drinking perspective) than the 97s. With that number we're also likel...

Re: Wed 9 Sep 2015, Elizabeth II > Victoria, Boot & Flogger

This was indeed a splendid and for me, arguably, the best (for quality) tasting that I have attended thus far. All Ports (excepting the '24) showed superbly and on another night many of these could have been a WOTN. Very pleased and relieved that the D60 I brought showed well (although I preferred B...

D60 safely single decanted (bottom half of cork had to be pushed into original bottle and no time to fish it out) at 6.30 this morning. All appeared well and good.

Imagine being at a dinner in the USA, and there is a toast to ‘The Constitution’. I have grumbles about the US Constitution: the second amendment is wrong, the first amendment has bad consequences, and there is the business of the 60% fraction. That nice Mr Trump dislikes the fourteenth, other righ...

This was a disappointment as I was looking forward to trying but the overwhelming taste was one of cough medicine (actifed linctus-not that I am especially expert on cough medicines!). This was the one flawed bottle on the night.

Re: Latest buy

Managed to pick up one of the T85s yesterday also at £40 when passing another Tesco. Noticed they also had the Graham's Crusted at £12 instead of £18, but that it was the 2006 rather than the (recently stocked) 1998. Would suggest that they've also run out out of the 2002 which they were stocking s...

… Dow 60 now standing up in the cellar ready for decanting. I will have a little flexibility on the day so if there is a preferred decanting time let me know. Similar question from me about Taylor 1963. Unless there is a contrary consensus, the T63 will be decanted at 14:00. I propose 15:00 as deca...
