Re: It's just not cricket

Nah, Monty's going to piss all over them. I would have thought he had learned not to do that again. I'll set em up, you knock em down. We're just like Eric and Ernie. I am probably in a minority but have always regarded Eric Morcambe as a poor imitation of Phil Silvers. Develop your thesis, aside f...

Re: A reason to get up early

So let me get this right. You and the BBC are exhorting us to get up early in order to see a comet which: (a) will not be visible from the Northern Hemisphere until Dec 1; (b) will explode into nothingness when it passes through the Sun before Dec 1; and (c) will be hidden by the clouds of the Brit...

Re: It's just not cricket

I admit to not knowing anything about test cricket, but you guys don't seem to be factoring in the predictable England middle order collapse and the faster than expected deterioration of the wicket as a result of the reduced use of the heavy roller overnight. Trust me, 98 is the number you should b...

I was being generous to the Aussies. Glad to see I was wrong. But I was closer in wickets. Now, how much will WE lead by after the first innings?

Re: Oldest bottles

This summer we tasted a 1795 Madeira. Elsewhere on the forum AHB has written of tasting (I think) a 1792. I expect the oldest ports that members have drunk are at least half a century younger. Am I wrong? What's the oldest port you've drunk? And was it the oldest drink of any kind that you've had, ...

Re: One quiz at a time

I feel I have learned a lot about selo's too, so bravo. But things have come to a pretty pass when :tpf: is reduced to considering five centilitre bottles! I have read discussions elsewhere on :tpf: that suggest that port matures quicker in smaller bottles. If this is true then it would seem...

Re: It's just not cricket

OK - time to show my true colours. I am Scottish. Cricket is as mysterious to me as is the reason why whales commit mass suicide. I spent the first 45 years of my life believing that test match cricket was invented so the the BBC could avoid showing Wimbledon on both channels simultaneously. I thou...

Re: It's just not cricket

Ah but Scotland are nowhere as good as Ireland - aka the England youth team... A couple of strong armed swipers and servers up of 'the one that goes straight on'? Twenty-twenty is next door to baseball IMHO. Oh I agree about T20, I wouldn't watch it. But Ireland will be a Test team before 2020 (no ...

Re: It's just not cricket

I might be wrong but I thought it was more of an anxiety disorder. You do wonder how it would have changed the look of the English side, he could, in theory still be playing for England. Then would Cook be captain? I do wonder about Root up front, he looked so much happier a five. Scotland are play...

Kontoyianni Family Winery Unfiltered Merlot 2008

Having been a regular visitor to Greece for 15 years, when I saw this in my local independant wine merchants, I had to try it. I was not disapointed, it is very smoothe with lots blackberry flavour and a bit of spiceness. At £12 a pop slightly more than I usally spend on non port wine but certainly ...
