Shumin Zheng may also come if there's space (Kurt and her came at approx this time 12 months ago (around Dec 2013 / Jan 2014) for Dr Dirk's last new year outing to London). She would drink approximately nothing, but contribute well....!

Have changed my mind - will bring something from the 60s or 1970. Would also be happy with mixed theme and eating somewhere that provides a sufficiently refined dining experience to tempt Mrs B.

Re: Thursday 18th December - the 2014 Xmas Offline
My apologies for not making it - I came down sick pretty hard during the course of Wednesday / overnight and - in hindsight - was rather optimistic in hoping that i'd improve enough during the course of thursday to attend (just getting myself gingerly out of bed / bathroom now). If i'd been sufficie...

Re: Advice please Gentlemen
There seem to be a few 77s with cork issues, but mainly Dow, Nierpoort and that's it, I think. i've never had an issue with Niepoort 77 corks, although they are off-puttingly short. It's not that bad wines were made in 1977, the corks were just poop and have caused all sorts of problems. Not all of...

I quote; "They have been with a 3rd party supplier until recently, good condition, not recorked." I wonder who the 3rd man was? Cue zither music... Might just be someone new who is referring to Fells... The labels, selo and capsules on this stock look brand new (the label in particular is...

Re: Advice please Gentlemen
But I was thinking of the original question; Christmas is coming, so what port would you recommend for someone to buy as a single bottle with price, quality and availability at the front of your thoughts? Last year I recommended the Sainsbury TTD 03 to several people - I thought that was drinking w...

Re: Thursday 18th December - the 2014 Xmas Offline
I am sorry to hear that. I don't want to discourage regular TPF event attendees from taking this space, but 10 people has always been a bit of a squeeze at the Bell so I don't think we desperately need to fill the space for the sake of it (i.e. with non-TPF friends) If the steaks have already been o...

Re: 1994 Tesco
Looking back through the TNs of Tesco 94, you do seem to have picked somewhat of an outlier to quote (even if you restrict yourself to AHB's TNs)! I'd love to try one of the good bottles (I may have had one or two back in 2008...), but based on current experience (all very stewed) I would not now bu...

Re: A dry red port?
I would have thought that dryness would require a difference in the process of making the port, rather than being in the control of overseas bottlers.flash_uk wrote:Perhaps this particular dry style was discontinued after the Oporto-only bottling regulations came into force in the early '70s?

I think the first round of press announcements mentioned it would be available from December. And possibly from Fortnums (given the quote included from the Fortnums winebuyer)

Re: Quinta do Noval Nacional 2004
The release price was already quite full, I thought (equal to the 2011 Noval Nacional, from BBR at least). I would imagine that many people on this board - if they were interested in a few bottles of Noval Nacional 2004 - will have already purchased from Noval direct or through a merchant, so lack o...

Re: Fonseca 1985 VP
I think i've had between 10 and 20 bottles of Fonseca 85 from various sources (both original UK release and the recent ex-cellars release) and it has always left me slightly disappointed (given its reputation).
However, I have a fair bit of stock just in case others turn out to be right about it.

Not wholly on topic, but I'm curious about what leads you to make this statement....off the top of my head, I have some BBR-bottled Fonseca 1970 in dark green bottlesmattmoy_2000 wrote:The glass is dark green (so it's not Fonseca)
