Re: One quiz at a time
A recap, since we're on a new page. The question: I have just opened and decanted a bottle of port. I was surprised to find that the cork did not have the producer's name on it; I believe this is the only bottle younger than I where I have seen this; I am certain it is not a fake. What is it? What i...

Re: Free epub-version of the Illustrated Douro
Thank you for making this available, and letting us know of it; From a very quick scan, it looks like it should be a good read, with some interesting detail such as the sections on soil variation and production costs. For anyone else unfamiliar with the .epub format and downloading to a desktop mach...

Re: Aloha from Sweden
Welcome to :tpf: 1978 was unfortunately not a great year for Vintage Port; if I were buying for a friend and it *had* to be 1978, and it had to be Vintage Port, then I'd probably go for the Grahams Malvedos '78 which would be ok (not a resounding recommendation I know). Frankly though, it is not goo...

I think we all know that there are "British" and "Portuguese" houses (and "German" and "Dutch ones too, and so on). That is what I was ascertaining. Hmm. In that case my answer may or may not be appropriate... I assumed you were wishing to eliminate English-bottli...

Oh well. I'll console myself with having missed England's only win of 2014 with another glass of Taylor 1992. Or shall I go for the Smith Woodhouse 1997? Given the prices/selection on their website at the moment (assuming I know where you are) I would go for the T92 again since you liked it so much...

Is it a bottling from a Portuguese shipper? Yes. Is it VP? No. Côtto? No (is that a port? I had to look it up, and I only found what seemed to be a red wine) Have you opened this port before and found it to have a branded cork? No - I had not opened this port before. 12/20 questions/guesses remaini...

Also Cockburn in both 2000 and 2007 issued Cockburn VP and Cockburn Quinta dos Canais VP (the latter being the one with the label much favoured by me in 2000).

Re: Question about declared years
Single Quintas are often released in non declared years, but in declared years, is it common that a house will also release a single Quinta? I was wondering if there would be a Dow bomfim or Graham malvedos 2011? Also, two years seems typical for the release of a declared vintage after it is harves...

Re: Jura - various
I'd not tried Jura (that I remember) before Burn's night this year when we had a bottle (of Origin) as one of the whiskies on the table. Given the prices, I think Origin is good vfm, though slightly light so I would not dilute. Diurachs' Own for preference, though twice the price.
