Re: Christmas wine and port

on Christmas eve, I opened up a 1963 Avery's VP, it seemed a tiny bit corked. Yesterday, after Christmas dinner, we had a 1995 Kopke VP, and later on the evening I returned to the 1963, which seemed to have improved a bit (still not a great showing but quite enjoyable).

Possible fake 1927 VP in Belgium auction this weekend

Hi all, I don't know if anyone is taking part in the wine/port auction which is being held in Belgium this weekend, but if so, please take note of the following. There is 1 lot of 2 1927 VP bottles (Royal Oporto). Because I had some questions about this lot, I asked around a bit (It wasn't quite cle...

Andy, Glenn,
Thanks for your reactions.

Given the good level of my remaining bottle, I will keep it untill its 70th birthday in 2025 :-)

Re: 1955 Croft

Mature, brick red colour wih a pale rim, 30% opaque. Gentle sous bois nose, with soft wild strawberry. Lovely entry, slightly woody but with sweet fruits of the forest adding a pleasant complexity. Balanced and well structured but starting to dry out. A nice profile on the aftertaste with nutty dri...

I first thought it was Vargellas 1991 VP, but a quick check showed that I have a couple more of the Croft Q. da Roeda 2005

I found a hotel, and hopefully my wife and I can get things worked out with our work.
Can we still apply to join (with 2 attendees)?

Croft 1977 VP

I got the chance to buy a case of Croft 1977 VP quite recently (I need to collect them yet), at what seemed to me a very decent price. With this purchase, I have exceeded the number of 1977 VP's that I ideally want to have. So if anyone is interested, I would like to part with 5 bottles of Croft 197...

Re: What have you got open this weekend?

Since it was my wife's birthday last week (turning 40) I opened the following bottles as a small port tasting for our wine- and portliking friends & family: - Quevedo 40 yo Tawny (2012 bottling); - Dalva 1977 Colheita (bottled 2014); - Warre 1977 Vintage Port; All showed very well, and it was an...

I’d love to accept, but expect to be ‘unavailable’ on that date.
You'll only be 96 - I'll be a sprightly 104..
Would love to attend, should I be allowed and/or invited. I'll be only 90 (almost 91 at that date  )

Interesting; I would very much like to taste this port, along with it's '63 predecessor which I have never tried but has an excellent reputation also, and which I understand was a 2:2:1 ratio blend of Fonseca:Sandeman:Taylor respectively. I love the idea of them trying to out-blend the originals, a...

Re: 1971 Dalva Golden White

Bottled 2012. Lovely deep golden amber colour. Initial flavour of soft caramel, cut across by superbly balanced acidity (no bite, just balance); hints of citrus (mandarin), peach and honey. Very long finish, amazingly smooth all the way. Delicious. Rating: Excellent- Nice bottle! And a very good ta...

Re: Buying port in the U.K.

Why have a few ‘groups’ on TPF, such as London tasters and New York tasters . If wanted I’d be happy to create a group, perhaps called ‘Dutch Port collectors’. If one of you is transporting Port from the UK to the Netherlands, that group could be messaged suggesting a larger single delivery, which ...

The only time I've had the Fonseca QdP 1986 was at the East India Club, London in 2006. It had those labels too. I remember it was drinking rather well then so possibly one to drink up over these next few years. Thanks!! So it is on the market at least ten years then. I'm sure I can be persuaded (s...
