Re: Tuesday, October 8th, London, CALEM (and friends) tastin

Hmm, I think there has been some confusion due to individual attendees choose different approaches. One was a theme and the other "let us have a fantastic bt of port" and meet/catch up with Andy. Both are equally valid, some may prefer the latter one. The Calem idea is nice because it is ...

Re: What port to drink in Cornwall

I will be in Cornwall in a few days time for some R&R. For the last few weeks I have either been drinking 2011 vintage ports or something that wasn't port. I now feel like getting back into the port routine - but what should I take? I can choose from LBV (such as Croft 2004 in halves), colheita...

Re: Help- cheese with port

Comté, btw, is essentially French cheddar. I agree that it's also a good pairing with Port, though I find that it is typically milder than an English Coastal cheddar. +1 for Comté - provided it is for with tawny rather then ruby port. Comté is one of my favourite cheeses, but can vary dramatically ...

Re: Help - recommendations required for a tasting

Having done a couple of these for friends, a few extra thoughts for your consideration: (i) Unless you're trying for the best of each category, don't go for the best in one and then the cheapest in another, just to match your target price point. For example, picking the nicest ruby around and then a...

Thank you for the clarifications above; I now understand your proposed method. Also, while what I am trying to propose would prevent tangling from occur...

Re: Help- cheese with port

I would highly recommend Castello Blue, if you have that brand on your side of the Atlantic. A soft and creamy blue which I find goes very well; I usually have soft white rolls with it rather than biscuits when having it with port, though the additional sugar/sweetness typical of US bread might not ...

Clarification needed on bullets 2/3/4 please (first half of 2 is fine; second half of two, and subsequent/consequent actions in 3/4 not understood). But, in the general case, distance is the wrong way to choose what to connect to what. Agreed, though it seems a reasonable initial starting point. On selecting all subsequent lines, you could (theoretically) perform validation checks, such as to ensure that for any new enclosed areas formed bounde...

Any algorithm requiring such fiddling is a bad algorithm. My gut (not Dow 66) suggests that specification that for your current algorithm, using any of the diamond packing styles, RaysLinesPerGlass must be a multiple of 60 to ensure no problem. I would attempt to re-state your problem as being to: ...

Re: 2011 Horizontal - London, 23rd April 2051

"Quinta do Vesuvio Capela" is a convenient moniker, but for an event like this should it not be given its proper name on the tasting mats? Quite right, Capela da Quinta do Vesuvio it is or soon will be. We have traditionally used the abbreviation ‟VC”: any objection to that? For abbrevia...

Re: Alcohol and health

It's even easier since most bottles are marked in cl, rather than ml; just take the % as stated by ABV of the volume as stated in cl, and you get the number of units of alcohol (this all works simply because 10ml of alcohol is one unit). Examples: - a bottle of port is 75cl, ABV is 20%, 20% of 75 is...
