Immaculate Coincidences

I love coincidences. Yesterday I had to put some cheques into my personal account but had no paying in slips - used them all up. My local NatWest will allow me to pay into my RBS account only if I have an RBS slip, so I was about to toddle off into town. Hadn't had a new cheque book in nearly two ye...

Re: A hello from Australia

Griff, welcome and good to have an Aussie poster.

Not sure whether my offlines with Aussie (Gas Man or Zammo), TORB and Red Bigot count as TPF events, especially as no Port was had, some port maybe. However, a trip to Perth is not out of the question.

Good to have you here,

Alex

Re: 25 May 2010, somewhere north of Henley, a blind tasting

Thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thanks to Richard for the stunning combination of 1976 FG and 1977 Fonseca. I think that Fonseca 1977 is a lovely Port but a little over-rated, it was probably the best Port for drinking now. Pairing with the 1976 proved this point without any doubt as the supposedly se...

I can bring 86, 88 and 96 Guimaraens - willing to supply two, three would just be getting heavy.

Now that the M-i-L has been informed, I am permitted to announce Read jr II. He / she will be more formally named around 1st December 2010. In the meantime, I can report that the current growing conditions for vintage port have been considered favourable to the extent I was able to establish this o...

First things first - Happy Birthday Tom, again. Second things second - thank Al B for organising the event. Great (even though obvious) theme; liked the venue and talking to the Aussie guy at the end, looks like we could improve by telling him to get aged steaks in, in advance. Most impressive thing...

Ah now, yes. Does this include the loony bargains that we sometimes get in the UK, or worse, what Tom picks up at auctions?

My thoughts exactly. Smisse, please buy as many as you can and we will retrieve them from you at the Dutch off-line. Happy to transfer cash upfront.

Re: 1970 Sandeman

There was a flavour profile that we picked up in the 63/66/70 tasting that Sandeman had. I thought that it was 'musty' that we described it as but another person's nose may describe it in other ways. When we tried the Sandeman's blind, it was spotted immediately. I like Sandeman's but up against the...

Re: Dow's 2007 Vintage - 100 PTS Wine Spectator

As I've pointed out in another thread about some alternate sticky stuff, WS has awarded 100points to the Campbell's Merchant Prince Muscat, a wine of genuine loveliness. Personally, I prefer the Isabella Tokay (with a paltry 98 RP points), at exactly the same price. Campbell's kept both at their sta...

First of all, it's not a brand, it's a concept. Secondly, this is a country that had a brand of sticky tape called Durex. I need say no more.

Re: Rutherglen Stickies Better than Port?

I'm not going to put these things in the fridge, they don't need it. I took a Morris along to a farewell party on Friday and it turned out to be excessively popular, to the extent that a trip to Rutherglen, to buy the cellar-door stuff, looked on for the hosts.

Re: Rutherglen Stickies Better than Port?

It is true though that Australia makes some very, very good stickies. Better than port? I don't know, different and great in its own right. Absolutely right Ronald. I hate the 'better than' idea but it was a deliberate change of title to get a reaction. This stuff needs to be tasted by the people o...

Well this thread caused a stampede of enthusiasm. Think I will change the thread title to cause a disturbance. Went to Rutherglen and did a bit of tasting. The stickies are not as popular as the dries which amazed me. However, there were some exceptional things on offer. Went to see Campbells, Stant...
