Re: 2017 Vallado
So, from other threads and fellow tasters at TPF it seems this port used to be called Quinta do Vallado Adelaide, however it is recently just called Quinta do Vallado as the term Adelaide is now used for the company's dry wines to avoid confusion, so I'll add my notes here. Beautiful deep aromatic n...

Re: 2017 Crasto
Not as intense as other ports from the vintage but is this a bad thing? Raspberries and violets, I found the alcoholic nose interfered with the bouquet. Finishes medium, so for me 15/20

Spice and black fruit, coffee beans and pepper, with medicinal notes and big, grippy tannins. Finishes medium+ and hence did not score this higher. 16/20

Re: 2017 Maynard
Very fruit driven with reed cherry, boiled cherry sweets, confectionery and sweet spice. Finishes long and it is a good port, perhaps for earlier drinking as this is a lighter style, seems to lack certain depth of flavour. 16/20

Deep purple colour, forest fruit, blackberry and black cherry, blueberry and blossom, cinnamon and mint. Lovely balance between the acid, well-integrated tannins and sweetness. The 2017 Fonseca displays a mouthwatering long peppery and spicy finish. 18/20

Re: 2017 Churchill Quinta da Gricha
Black cherry and pronounced spices. Interesting aromas of fresh coffee beans and smoke. I found some vegetal character there (not offensive but rather strange). On the palate it's big on tannins. Although it has some interesting aromatic characteristics, I felt the alcohol is somewhat unbalanced. Th...

Re: 2017 Graham The Stone Terraces
The 2017 Stone Terraces is fresh and exceptionally aromatic. What a powerhouse of a port! Great depth of aromatics with blueberry compote, black forest fruit, black and red cherry, rock rose and violets, eucalyptus and graphite. This concentration is apparent on the palate too, the tannins are robust...

Deep purple. Fresh and intense nose of black cherry, freshly-cut black grape, jammy blackberry, cocoa, pepper, violets, rock rose and perfume. The palate is filled with black forest fruit, spice and balsamic notes. The sweetness, alcohol, acidity and high but soft tannins are superbly balanced. The ...

Re: 2017 Niepoort
The nose shows floral aromatics, with blossom, black cherry, chocolate and hints of spice. This is packed with fruit on the palate with blackberry, cherries and raspberries. I found the tannins evident and grippy without being offensive but supporting the wine's longevity. The finish is long with th...

Re: 2017 Taylor
Beautiful nose. Iinitially raspberry compote, followed by wild red berries, dark forest fruit and defined aromas of violet, bell pepper, menthol and spice. Fresh and mouthwatering on the palate, this is full bodied but with a velvety mouthfeel. Layers upon layers of perfume, fruit and spice evolve a...

Re: 2017 Dow
Very deep, impenetrable dark colour. The Symington family have done a great job extracting colour and flavour components to the max! Production was tiny and it shows, this port is concentrated as anything. Floral aromas of violet and rockrose, intense dark fruit, blackberry, black cherry, cassis, da...

Purity of red and black fruit- mainly raspberry and strawberry but also blackberry. The acidity is nicely balanced by the sweet fruit leading to a long finish. This is nice in its simplicity. 14.5/20

Deep purple with ripe red cherry, blackberry and tobacco. Big but smooth tannins and with very nicely concentrated fruit and a good long finish with very intresting mid palate. I'd like to try this in the future. 18/20

Deep purple, unusual nose of red fruit and marzipan, felt slightly over-ripe, intensely tannic with a bitter hint on the aftertaste which left a drying sensation. Finishes medium+ 15.5/20

Deep purple, freshly-cut ripe red fruit; starwberry, raspberry, cocoa, mentol, eucalpytus, rockrose and violets. I liked its balancing acidity a lot, with plenty but well intergrated tannins and a long lingering finish. A classic taste! 17.5/20

Re: 2017s, B&F, Tue 25 June 2019
Thank you very much for such an interesting and informative event. Most ports were fascinating and complex with high levels of fruit concentration. I felt the tannins although very much present were soft and gave an enormous hidden support towards the structure and longevity of the wines. Very balan...

Re: Tue 25 June 2019 - 2017 Vintage Ports
I am both delighted and disappointed to have to withdraw from this one. The 2016 version of this was a wonderful tasting and I am gutted to no be able to compare with the 2017s, particularly with the back to back nature of the vintage declarations. But, I am delighted because we finally managed to ...
