Travelling through American airports with port

Fall-2009 : Size restriction removed, but all liquids will have to be placed in a separate bin. AT X-Ray software will be advanced enough to tell the difference between threat and non-threat but not yet proven to tell the difference when it is hidden in a bag. End of 2010 : No restrictions. Re: Old & Odd, New York, Friday 7th November 2008

Problem. I have, for the first time, seen the Barros bottles (they went straight from auction to friend’s house). And, err, both back labels say that they were ‟bottled in 1995”. So colheita, not vintage port. Which rather throws a spanner in the works. What to do? 1. Nice port we can drink ’em. 2....

Re: ThePortForum cufflinks and lapel pins

A gentleman might well wear cufflinks when drinking port. But a gentleman might wear a T-shirt when planting trees, or, ideally, when speaking to his forester. And this being an association of like-minded port-drinking gentlefolk, cufflinks seem more appropriate, even for the ladies.

I will be in the UK the first week or so of February, and could bring back goodies. Maybe you want to start a new thread, proposing dates and themes?

Sure, but my few old bottles really belong in a serious more-strictly-themed tasting probably a vertical. Aren’t you pleased that you saved your old Crofts for that fantastic vertical in Boston, rather than serving them with a random collection of other bottles?

Port acronyms

This thread is to hold port acronyms. But please gather them together in sets, related somehow ideally humorously. Think of it as a game. I’ll start. TPF = T he P ort F orum[.com] :tpf: ; TFP = T aylor F ladgate P artnership ; TFH = T he F actory H ouse, known in Portuguese as Feitoria Inglesa .

The Christmas Emergency, all over again

In late 2007 the residents of New York and Siberia held an ‘emergency’ mini-tasting ( thread ), as my missus was away. Well, it seems that from Friday 26th December 2008 until Sunday 4th January 2009 I shall be home alone, and while the cat’s away! Suggested theme? Or, over multiple evenings, themes?

OK, last-minute home double decanting, except the two eighteen-hundreds which should be done there.

That’s what I meant. I can bring two funnels and a box of coffee filters. We need only to borrow one or two decanters and a faucet.

Re: Old & Odd, New York, Friday 7th November 2008

Ahhh, well found though there is a better link. A half bottle and a glass of Dow 1980 would do the job perfectly.

The new decanting plan:
  • 4 hours: Infantado Vintage Character;
  • Pop-and-pour: all others.
I have gathered 0 or 1 or 2 extra people.

But different average depth = volume ÷ surface area. Can’t be too careful.

Re: 1960 Delaforce vintage port

But what if warmth only affects wine if there is a large area of air-liquid boundary? Then temperature won’t matter for full decanters; would for nearly-empty decanters.

Refusing a magnum silly man.
