Re: Latest buy

12 Offley Boa Vista 1994. Everyone has their price, it is said, and 9% off appears to be mine. I had been succesfully resisting this for quite a while, and then Nickolls and Perks have a sale. I bought this from N&P some time ago at the pre-sale price, which i thought was attractive at the time...

Re: Wine Journalism: A Rich Seam of Unmined Moaning

That's better. I have just remembered that entropy dictates that the universe is bound for nothingness, thus rendering all human endeavour ultimately meaningless. :D Surely the drudge of daily life ought to have made that blatantly clear without anyone having to resort to high brow academic finding...

Re: Duty & VAT - to pay or not to pay, that is the question.

I had a similar revelatory experience as i was preparing our move to SWE. The solution still eludes me. Add to that there are no similar storage facilities here and i wont be able to build my own proper cellar. Most likely cull some wines of lesser interest, pay all VAT and duty in one shot, rent a ...

Re: Patient intake form

Whilst i find the selection quite funny and wish a lighthearted approach such as this could find favour in the medical world, there is a problem in that the answers are subjective. What i consider Buckets might be considered Some by someone else. Thus, if data consistency and quality is paramount, u...

Re: Port in Gothenburg

No problem. I will work out when this will be - I expect it may be early December - and maybe we can get a private room in my hotel! Sounds good. I'm fine with both private or public. Inhibited is not a word often mentioned alongside "Swede". (the citizen rather than the root veg mind you...

Re: Port in Gothenburg

I will be able to confirm the 16th October soon, hopefully. Making another visit this week during which plans for future trips will become clearer. This date is now looking unlikely as we have not yet found a venue and in light of the slightly awkward regs surrounding selling/serving alcohol in Swe...

1982 Quinta do Noval

Good fill level, no sign of seepage. The top of the bottle/cork was reassuringly dry but after a few turns of the corkscrew, the cork, perhaps choosing death by drowning in port rather than being skewered by a metal implement (both being methods of dispatch with historical precedents i believe), att...

Re: Very uncivilised airport!

In Gothenburg Landvetter airport they sell Andresen 1995 Colheita in the (non-)Duty Free shop. You are not allowed to buy ANY alcohol if you are flying within the EU. There is a man on this plane who has a look of Turnbull about him but he is VERY SLIM. I have made the same erroneous assumption at ...

Re: Port in Gothenburg

Would any of the following dates work for a Gothenburg meeting: 10th or 11th of September 15th or 16th of October ? I am unable to make the September dates but the October ones look good, ideally 16th Oct (Friday). I also asked a like-minded colleague who lives in G-burg about his interest, which w...

Nah, let'em have it i say! Both barrels. It being a franchise (or summit) with multiple outlets makes it more of a crime.

They do serve ok beer but obviously this pales in comparison with the signage problem.

Do fielders have to bat and bowl as well? If yes, count me out. If no, please consider me for a fielding position. I have thrown many a ball, from snow and otherwise.

For imbeciles like me the Stern line in the sand by Levi.. umm, Leviticus? has appeal in its binary-ness. It sort of "keeps the riff-raff out of Waitrose" to put it in plain and easily understood English. Otherwise where would we be? Could a comet be a planet? A star? What about asteroids ...

Pale red/orange. Nose has faded fruit and then a sour or harsh note. On the palate the wine is at first quite nice with some mature albeit faint red fruit and some dusty notes but this is followed by a thin sour end note. Admittedly, the wine improved over the course of the evening but remained the ...

Auktionsverket is doing another wine auction. Whilst the port on offer is not much to get excited about there is some old Madeira is listed which might trigger some interest, albeit it seems very keenly priced.

Palest of the lot - light amber/orange. Some remnants of fruit initially but they fade too fast and leave a slightly harsh end. No longer at peak.
