Re: Tues Dec 13th 2016 - Noval vertical

Do we now need to start thinking about putting some more flesh on this tasting? For my own part, I have little bottles of Noval with only singles of the 60, 66, 82 and 85 (plus cases of the 11, 12 and 13 IB). I do have more bottles of the 58 however (acquired at auction a few years ago and believed ...

Re: 1985 Graham

I've had the Graham, Taylor and Fonseca 85s in the past year and been a little disappointed with all of them. None of them were bad, I just felt slightly underwhelmed with them all in different ways. Could this be a sign the 85s are in a bad place right now? Or is the vintage in general in danger o...

I've realised that for some strange reason I have not put my name down for this tasting. Can the powers that be remedy this forthwith (or else put me down on the reserve list? :D

All in pretty good shape I'm pleased to report-consisting of a G80, D70 and Ch85 with the WOTN being the Ch85 (thanks Wolfgang) one of the few 85s in its perfect drinking window at the moment and absolutely delicious.

Re: 2014 Declarations

I hadn't appreciated until I received a communication from a retailer yesterday that Noval had declared two weeks ago but lo, there it is listed in the first post with no fanfare and no other reference that I can see? Also see that the NN 2001 is now to be released.

Re: Which LBVs are worth cellaring?

I came unstuck with the filtered Warre LBV a couple of years ago having bought eight bottles of the 2008 blind at auction believing that they had to be the 'traditional' variety (I congratulated myself at getting a bargain). Didn't bear comparison to the live version-I drank one, used one for cookin...

Re: Wednesday 12th October 2016

I'm up for this. Would prefer 1970 to 1977 on the grounds that I have more variety of the former and that there is more strength in depth across the vintage. However, I'll go with the consensus.

Re: Port House abbreviations

I see we have settled on Mz with which I concur. I would prefer B for Burmester but more ambivalent on this one. I note we don't seem to have covered Quinta do Vallado? Have had some lovely aged tawnies from the producer (although they have produced some VPs).

Re: Port for sale by retailer

In addition, my nearest branch has Sainsbury Taste the Difference vintage port 1998 and 1999 on offer for £12 per bottle or Taylor 2009 and 2010 LBV at £7.20 per bottle. Vintage port @ £9 per bottle anyone? My local Supermarkets never have these mythical specials. Grr. If it isn't on the website it...

Re: Tue 16 Aug 2016, Boot & Flogger, Emergency

A great evening with some lovely Ports and the D70 a deserved WOTN and particularly sumptuous. I ended up with nil points (being one of those caught by the Cr60 conundrum) albeit correctly agreeing the 1st and 2nd in the pecking order. Tom's FG68 was also a great drop of juice and FG (especially fro...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

This Sainsbury offer started last week and I had expected to have finished by yesterday (Weds) but it is still on today and the chap there suggested that it must therefore continue until next Weds which is good as I'm tempted by the Graham's Crusted 2002 that they still still appear to have a number...

1970 Sandeman

Opened before watching a good night for the Brits at the Olympics. No label but Oporto bottled from the selo. Decant time 3 hrs, 50% opaque, slightly spirity at first but quickly developed into a lovely mature VP with soft red fruits and a shortish but rewarding finish. Certainly the best S70 I have...

VZ for me also. In terms of the others still to be determined, I go back to my first post regarding Krohn and agree with Glenn that Kr sounds more 'natural' than any of the other alternatives (I would also disagree regarding Krohn's lack of presence in the UK-it's been a regular fixture in two wine ...
