Re: 12 October - 55 @ 55 Tasting
Will you two please behave. This is a public forum! Bottle numbers - from the views and comments offered so far, I have decided that we will limit the tasting to 15 bottles of 1955 vintage port. This will make the cost per person £65 plus a bottle of port. I will shortly send an email to everyone as...

Derek's idea works. Or you could go for something that offers some complete contrasts in style and maturity. Almeida Tawny 1863 Cockburn 1950 Smith Woodhouse 1983 Warre 2007 Taylor 10 year tawny There would be a huge variety of tastes and flavours in that combination and everyone should find somethi...

Re: 12 October - 55 @ 55 Tasting
Replies on adding bottles received so far have been noted. There seems to be a clear consensus to add at least two, but no clear consensus yet whether to add as many as possible. FOOD The menu on the evening will be exactly the same as we had last time I was at the RAF Club. That is: Pea and Mint So...

Re: 12 October - 55 @ 55 Tasting
In the first post of this thread I list out all the wines and people who are attending this offline. There are a couple of people who have yet to decide what to bring, and one of them is only a tentative attendee as he would be flying in from Canada to take part. So I would like opinions on whether ...

Re: 1991 Dow
Deep red in colour, 90% opacity at the centre. Sweet on the nose, with some herbaceous overtones. Sharp and slightly acrid impact, with a watery texture. Decent aeration yielded some soft and stewed red fruit flavours. A fairly simple palate at present, but giving the impression of the wine still be...

Re: 1982 Sandeman
Mid red, with the colour holding well into the rim; perhaps 70% opacity. Sweet red peppers on the nose and some menthol showing (but it was getting hot in the room by then). Quite simple on the palate, with sweet red rapsberries and some soft tannins. Not complex, but a perfectly enjoyable palate. A...

Re: Professional storage - insurance
This is the relevant section from Berry Brothers' terms and conditions for storage : Insurance: Customers' Private Reserves are insured at our estimate of the replacement market value. We accept no liability should our estimate be incorrect. I'm happy with that, although it still leaves the value of...

Re: Unknown port
Andy, Thanks for the fun - even though no-one was willing to hazard a guess as to what the port was. I know I enjoyed speculating about what it could be. Nor do I feel too embarrassed by what I suggested the port might be. If ever you happen to be around when one of the offlines are being organised,...

1935 Cockburn vintage port
From a bottle bought as Taylor 1935 with a "mid-shoulder" description which had leaked on the journey home to finish with a "just below low shoulder" fill - and a cork riddled by cork weevil but still clearly branded as "Cockburn 1935". A clear, ruby shade of tawny; sur...

No, I didn't try and remember to remember and do that.
I said that I would try, and remember, to take a photograph of the menu but got lazy with my commas. For which, of course, I apologise to any I may have offended.

1991 Morgan vintage port
Deep red in colour, just transparent in the centre. A confused noseof coffee and sour cherries. Mid-weight impact with generous levels of fruit, soft and dry tannins and a hidden but strong acidity. The fruit dominates the palate. A fierce heat burns on swallowing, but this is followed by a deliciou...

Re: Tuesday 7th September - Dow Vertical at TCP
Team, I have made a number of unilateral decisions with regard to tomorrow's offline, which I hope will be acceptable to all. These are: 1) Axel is unable to attend due to illness. He has still offered to pay for the bottle of 1980 if we wish to continue to include it in the line-up. I have accepted...

Re: Tuesday 7th September - Dow Vertical at TCP
I agree with Derek. No biking after the Dow vertical. In addition if you are nicked you may get points on your licence and may get an extra invitation to do extensive walking for a month or three. At least in Germany you would. I will tell you the story when I tried to enter a Autobahn with a bike ...

I also have 1984 FG if ever we decide to put this tasting together.
And, yes please Mr Admin, another split would seem to make sense.

We have the beginnings of an idea here. Would you mind (Chris / Ben) if I ask and admin to split these last few posts into a new thread in the organising tastings and offlines forum? I love the idea of a 1986 horizontal, but I think we might struggle to find enough bottles.
