2003 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port
Black. Thick and chocolatey with a slight bitterness and then very very dry. This is way too young for my taste but it seems to have a big future ahead of it.

Can we assume that "large enough to put a whole bottle of Port in " actually means "large enough to take an entire flight of bottles from all Fonseca declared vintages over any rolling 100 year period" I only ask because this is the usual accepted level of scope creep in this kin...

2003 Noval Silval Vintage Port
Closed nose. A decent thick texture with lots of fruit and bitter chocolate. Spoiled for me by a hot finish.

2002 Noval Silval Vintage Port
Spicy nose. Weak entry. There's fruit in there somewhere but overall the wine is quite bitter. Big dry tannic finish.

2001 Noval Silval Vintage Port
Nice open nose. Lovely weight and fruit forward. This seemed almost drinkable now until the tannins emerged. A slight minty taste in the finish which ended up quite bitter.

1996 Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port
Inky black. Smooth entry and a very nice drinking weight. A huge tannic burst then mellows out to a long mouthwatering finish.

2000 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port
A little more fruit on the nose than the Nacional from the same vintage. Very smooth and chewy texture but soon becomes very dry and tannic.

2000 Noval Silval Vintage Port
Deep colour. Closed nose with a little heat. Very smooth and thick entry. Starts off as a fruit bomb but the tannins took over to develop a long dry finish.

Closed nose. Thick and creamy with fantastic levels of fruit and a long dry finish. For me, this is better than the 2000.
