1983 Cockburn VP

About 60% opaque, roughly as expected. After decanting, relatively little nose, but taste of raspberries. Somewhat thin, and a little disapoointing after the last bottle from the case that I had a couple of months ago. The word 'reedy' came to mind, but it could just have been that it was late, it w...

Re: Best Online Stores

Is it only me who thinks that Anduno has some sort of commercial tie to this store? That or he just likes to pay insane amounts for his ports. I think he's just been gulled by a pretty case and a quite peculiar website.. I wonder, what would forum users buy if they were handed £200 and ordered to s...

2011 Taylor Just ordered an Imperial en primeur. Not sure who is going to drink it, as it will not really be ready for another 30-40 years or so. Have you children? That’s a fantastic thing to inherit, or be given, to drink when it has 40-60 years on the clock. Just one child - a college aged daugh...

Re: 2011 Declarations

Taking Graham as an example, the 2011 is the most expensive vintage in the UK going back to 1985 and it is only once you get back into the 70s that prices really jump (best retail prices per case from reliable source in the UK (from winesearcher pro): 2011 - £470, 2007 - £420, 2003 - £390, 2000 - £...

Re: Upside-Down Union Jacks

And once again, I say, come to Belfast, where we can discuss this in full and with people who really care! In order to really appreciate the experience, do we have to have a power shower for half an hour? With a mirror? Would likely result in a substantial increase in port consumption immediately t...

Re: Port Suggestions for a Bris

Personally, I would lean towards the 66 Graham - rich, smooth, complete. My favourite port.

As others have said, the 70 Fonseca would also be good. Spicy and powerful.

Port storage problem

I am in the process of purchasing just less than three cases (34 bottles) of wine from the recent poster "DJH", and have just found that my usual cellarer, Seckfords, will not take mixed cases, and, living in Tokyo, I am unable to collect them very soon. Does anyone have any suggestions? M...

Re: Latest buy

In my will, I really must bequeath to my daughter my obsession with port. You could adopt me as your son, and, if you should pre-decease me, that would guarantee that the obsession would be passed on. But if the bequest is specified to be to a daughter, are you prepared for the required sex change?...

Nonsense. They are too small.
Indeed, this is my only concern. So difficult to find an occasion when only a half is just right.

1983 Fonseca vintage port

After 12 hours in the decanter. Rich and peppery - Fonseca usually makes me sneeze, for some reason. Very good length.

The next day was also excellent, possibly better. Full, rich, creamy, elegant. Very enjoyable indeed.

1983 Graham vintage port

At opening, little bottle stink, but grapey and unknit.

Five hours in the decanter helped, leaving it richer, more complete. As it disappeared rather quickly, there was not a lot of time for further notes.

Decanted 10 hours. Raisiny and a bit hot, not a lot of length. Good enough port, would not call it exceptional.

1983 Cockburn vintage port

About 10 hours after decanting. Fruity nose. Hot and spicy on entry with raspberry and chocolate. Tannins subdued with decent length. Age has helped this one, and has improved much over past experience.

Liking this one more and more.

1994 Quinta do Vesuvio vintage port

This was the wild card of the evening, and given its youth, we decanted it first thing in the morning. Opaque, dark ruby. Upon pouring a glass, one of the evening's participants declared "cradle robber". The nose was closed. It was hot and still felt unknit with lots of flavours - figs, or...

1985 Dow vintage port

Drank several hours after decanting. Surprisingly little nose, still deep red, moderately full bodied, with falvours of tobacco and aniseed on the first night with good length. Another day in the decanter helped, making it a bit more spicy with hints of oak and currant, and a nice creamy finish. Thh...
