Re: Virtual Anniversary - June 20th

JDAWiseman is online, seemingly alone. Unfortunately, Skype isn't working over here (it seems I need to make a new account, for reasons unknown to me), so I won't be online on Skype. I will however, be online over here, and I will be opening a Quevedo Colheita 1992 (the 2009 bottling) in a couple o...

1997 Niepoort VP

It was the first time I've opened such a youngster, because when opening my 6 botle case a couple of days ago to make some more room in my cellar, as bottles take up much less space than when still in the OWC), I found that one of the bottles was showing signs of seepage (and rather a lot of it). So...

Re: What are you standing in the cellar

To be opened coming Sunday (for my and my dad's Fathersday :) ): Niepoort 1997. It'll be the first time I'll be opening such a youngster, but while opening my 6 botle case yesterday (in order to make some more room in my cellar, as bottles take up much less space than when still in the OWC), I foun...

Re: Virtual Anniversary - June 20th

If I can recall my skype-account name, I'd be interested to take part as well!
Should we arrange a specific time at which we all try to be online?

Gerwin, did you see an offer from Henri Bloem yet? Their prices are often very good. Not that I want to rob you of a trip to the UK... No, nothing seen from Henri Bloem yet. But thanks for the tip! I will keep an eye out for an offer from Henri Bloem. I've seen some 2011 VP's from Ton Overma...

Re: Temperature of serving

That's close to what I've always believed, though their recommendation is a little cooler than my preference. I've said for some time that VP is best served just under room temperature - right about 65 degrees Fahrenheit. It should be slightly cool, but not cold. They say 16-18 degrees C. I'd say 1...

Re: Advice on where to order 2011 VP in the UK

Thanks so far for the replies! I will keep the advice in mind, regarding the possibility for a tasting (and I'm hoping that someone of you guys could help me with some practical stuff like a place where it could take place :D ). I think I will be going for Fonseca, Portal (if possible trhough AHB) a...

Advice on where to order 2011 VP in the UK

As VP is on the expensive side (in absolute terms, not in comparison to the dry reds of this world of course), I would like some insider advice from the UK-based members. What is, on average, the best place to order 2011 VP (en primeur) in the UK? I'm based in The Netherlands, and if I know one thin...

Re: Quaffings for Xmas

Having had some nice VP's around my birthday (1987 Warre Qta da Foz, and 1977 Pocas J), all I have left for X-mas is a 1991 Vargellas VP. Otherwise I'll be breaking my VP-year-limit for this year (which I installed only last year, so to be breaking this already will probably show my lack of VP-willp...

Re: Which bottle to choose?

Gerwin, From your description it is possible that the cork on the first bottle isn't being pushed out but might never have been pushed all the way into the neck. If this is the case, and with the fill level you describe, it is likely to have a perfect seal. The way to tell is to remove the capsule ...

Re: Which bottle to choose?

I would have to taste both first to let you know without doubt. But if I had to make a punt I would go for the lower fill despite the cork positioning. Thanks for your advice for now! I'll try and see if I can make out any other differences between the bottles, but if not, I will indeed go for the ...

Which bottle to choose?

I've a question. This weekend I am planning to open a Croft 1955 VP. I have aquired two bottles of this wine at an auction earlier this year. One bottle has a cork that is slightly pushed out of the bottle (at one side only). The cork seems to be coming out of the bottle by about 2 milimeters at one ...
