Food order updated. Failing cogent objection by 6pm Sunday 11th, it will be sent to the B&F.

Re: The wine shed - a concept, and some horrible maths..

I am watching this thread with interest, Tom. I can't help with the maths but I share your skepticism about temperature stability. A fine example is the cellars in VNG, which are about as thermally stable as my back garden. Whilst it seems to be true that bottle matured wines age slightly faster in ...

Re: The wine shed - a concept, and some horrible maths..

But one thing I've been thinking a lot about is how to add thermal mass. Think of it like leaving big water bottles in the freezer. What if I put two 55 gallon plastic drums of water in the wineroom? What if I used a temp-retaining stone on the floor? Every time you drink a bottle of wine, Port or ...

Unfortunately I missed the blue phase and the red phase - I just caught a big white moon.

The blood moon is indeed an impressive sight. The blue moon reminds me of my mother singing at family gatherings in the 1970s :D

Re: Vintage Port - Souza and Grahams

Hi, You have a collection of unusual Ports but unfortunately none that would attract high prices. The Graham Malvedos 1979 is an older vintage of a brand you would currently see for about £25 for in Tesco or Sainsbury. Being a bit older you might get a few pounds more than that for it, but not a lot...

Re: RE: Re: Thu 15 Feb 2018: Mr. Wolfgang Stars

Port: Niepoort 1970 (dumpy). Yes, I know, it isn't a British shipper, but it certainly should be Port Fit for A New Subject of Her Majesty , is a bottle I have been saving for a special occasion and would like to share with Wolfgang, and is a bottle which didn't originally live in the UK, but found...

Re: Thursday 18th January 2018?

Alex: how spacious is Bar Douro? Will we have room for 2×A4? Currently I have squeezed seven bottles onto a single A4, but when Derek reveals his ’82 that will become eight, for which a single A4 is insufficient. How tight are things? At this point there is a 30% chance I will be there. Please don'...

Re: Tue 13 Feb 2018: Mr. Wolfgang Stars

Please put me down as a possible attendee. I might have to withdraw if something happens to my second knee between now and then.

May I suggest that "German pours" should be obligatory for all if there are fewer that eight attendees.

Congratulations, Wolfgang,

Re: Thursday 18th January 2018?

Gents,

There is a chance I will be in London on 18th Jan. I cannot commit to being there but wondered whether or not a gate-crasher with a bottle of something suitable to drink would be tolerated?

I'm happy to pay for and eat a share of the suckling pig if that is deemed to be helpful 🐷

Re: We need some tastings in the diary

A potential theme/request from me... The first of my knee replacements has gone very well. Only four weeks in I can stand on that leg without wincing, and have walked 10km in each of the last 14 days. The other knee will hopefully be done within the next four weeks and by spring I could be ready to ...

W84 LBV . Orange-red, 25% opaque. Nose faint, with pleasant heat. taste strawberry. A hint of grit. Actually quite lovely strawberry-flavoured port. Could easily be a mature VP. I am planning to bring Warre LBV 1984 - the groom's birth year vintage. “Fit For a Duchess”, please: ⇒ ≠LBV. Apparently a...
