I was surprised by this bottle. I expected it to be going downhill rapidly but it was extremely nice. I'm so glad I have another one from the same source 88)

1963 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port

January 2007 Appears to be a UK bottling - no label - purchased from Seckford Wines this year in a shared lot with Alex Bridgeman. The cork came out intact. It was quite badly stained and the branding was barely legible when first extracted. Straining my eyes to read it I thought for one moment tha...

1989 Warre's Quinta da Cavadinha Vintage Port

Short cork that came out easily and intact. Nice black fruit smell when decanting. A good dark ruby red colour. First glass immediately on decanting. Nose is quite medicinal. Mouth-feel is light, smooth and fruity then very tannic and dry after a few seconds. Not much heat. Flavour is of black cherr...

1966 Warre's Vintage Port

January 2007 UK bottled by Peatling & Cowdry (embossed lead capsule) - I bought this bottle as part of a mixed lot of Dow's and Warre's 66 - no labels and the cellar tags became detached during shipping. I had this one down as a Dow's until I pulled the cork (intact) and found it was Warre's 1966. ...

1977 Offley Boa Vista Vintage Port

Cork came out intact (no glue necessary) but was very short. Decanted easily from a thick purple cust. Dark tawny colour. Sightly cloudy and a very spirity nose on decanting. +8 Hours Still has a rather dull appearance and spitit dominates the nose. Thick mouth feel - burnt sugar with very little fr...

1965 Messias Vintage Port

28 March 2007 I had planned on opening a Tarylor's Vargells 1965 to celebrate my birthday yesterday but found my single bottle of Messias 1965 to be leaking so picked that instead. The cork was extremely wet and broke in half as soon as I applied upward pressure. The piece that was left in the neck...

2000 Fonseca Vintage Port

Black as coal with a huge burst of raspberry on the nose. The tears on the glass are thick and red. This is a huge fruit bomb but I have a feeling it is about to go the same way as the 85 and close down for a while. I just can't help thinking that it's a sin to drink this for the next 20/30 years. I...

1985 Fonseca Vintage Port

The nose is completely closed on this wine, even after 24 hours. The huge dry tannins dominate everything but the finish is immense with wave after wave of mouthwatering sweetness - if only my lips weren't so dry it might be really enjoyable to drink now, but it isn't.

I never let the cork drop back into the bottle :P Seriously, if you are left with the bottom portion left in the bottle neck you can normally extract it in one of more pieces using a spare helix from a rabbit. It is better to remove as much as you can this way and shatter what remains of the cork be...

OK - it's the end of a very long week and I have a man from Quebec who mainly speaks French teaching me English grammar. Time to go home and have a beer 88)

IN or OF - Quebec is in Canada, so Quebecoise are Canadians - aren't they :?

Don't confuse a Canadian and a Québécois !!! Am I missing something? Isn't Quebec a province of Canada? Therefore Quebecois are Canadian but only some Canadian's are Quebecois :? I equate this to calling a Scotsman British - it's true, even if it is accepted grudgingly for no logical reason. Derek

1970 Fonseca

For me this was the star of the show. Very dark and youthful in appearance although light is now beginning to penetrate the centre. Very smooth and chewy, black cherry and chocolate with just a little heat early on. As the night progressed this got better and better. I was lucky enough to take home ...

1987 Quinta do Noval Nacional

Disappointing. The wine was cloudy with a strange taste. There were still
elements of its power, especially in the texture and the finish, but overall it just didn't do it. A shame as this was the first NN for both Conky and KillerB.
