Re: Selo under/over capsule

A lot, if not the majority(?) of bottles I have seen of Oporto-bottled Taylor from the '60s and '70s seems to have the selo over the top of the capsule. From '80 onwards it seems to be some under, some over.

Re: Tue 5th June - Vintage with an '8' theme.

I didn't think I would be able to make this date, but it now appears I could. However, I believe you're full, so perhaps I could be added as a reserve?

Re: Warm-up for the BFT: Something nice from the 60s

@Julian - placemats checked and all look correct.
Could I request two swaps of position: S63 <-> Fs63 and T63<->F63 as this would make a better "Avery corner".

1970 Avery

A fascinating bottle, from Averys of Bristol. Which shipper(s) provided the wine(s) for this port is not currently known to TPF, though at least one previous year is believed to be a blend, so this may also be. The bottle and wine was in excellent condition. On decanting the colour was a good mid-de...

Re: Warm-up for the BFT: Something nice from the 60s

Gentlemen, Axel asked me to look into the glass issue and despite short notice we can hire glasses for this event (Riedel port stems). The cost split per person for 7 glasses each is 13.2£. Please confirm urgently that you are happy us using the glass service as the glasses in the RAF club are not ...

Re: Happy New Year!

Thank you. I had not understood the subtle importance of differentiating the cask date from the bottling date. I have now retrieved the bottle from the bottom of the larder to look again and it definitely simply says 1979 with no mention of cask or bottling dates? The label is showing some age but ...

Re: RE: Re: Warm-up for the BFT: Something nice from the 60s

Can you please arrange the wines that the 63s are on the right side and the others left. If you insist, but why not by age, older on left, younger on right, 63s together in the middle? I think Axel is intended to have two separate flights, with all the 63s within one of those (in order to avoid spl...

You currently have me bringing the Av63 which is not correct; it's Wolfgang S bringing the Av63, with myself bringing a T63 (one of the components) - unless Ian has a T63 (I need to make sure I can find mine!) in which case I have another alternative.

Re: BBR port walk 2017

I have never been at the BBR port walk. Is it worth while to travel from Sweden to attend next time? How many vintage ports, roughly, are served? The list just above is fairly typical of the range of ports on offer at the BBR port walk. The bottles are arranged on tables around the room, everyone i...

Re: Tue 10 April 2018, A Second Wind for 1963s?, Boot & Flogger

This was a very interesting and enjoyable evening, with a significant spread of port quality. There were three faulty bottles: Fonseca, Niepoort and Offley; the Offley was undrinkable, the Fonseca was tolerable but not good, and the Niepoort looked and tasted wrong, though it had some interesting co...

Re: 1963 Niepoort

Murky in colour, unfortunately this was not in great condition; there was some underlying complexity providing hints of what this wine might be, but the flavour had probably been somewhat stripped through filtering at decant (understood to have been filtered twice to try and resolve the haze). I had...

This was a bit rough, nowhere near as good as the CaF63 tasted at last year's Calem vertical. This one was quite rough, and had slight toffee notes.

Good, but not as good as some D63 tasted previously, this one seemed to have some hollowness to the taste. Still enjoyable, but not all it could be. Better liked by the group who rated it third overall.
