Re: NV Kopke 10YO White

Decanting probably won't help much, though it certainly won't do any harm. I would suggest opening it perhaps 12 or 24hrs before drinking, and making sure it's cool - I'll usually keep in the fridge and let it warm slowly in the glass while drinking it. Aside from that, it's likely just down to how ...

Re: W & J Grahams Malvedos 1979 and Dow's 1977 Vintage Port

To give some context: 1979 was a very poor year for port, so the Graham Malvedos would not normally be worth much even when well kept (perhaps £30-40 retail, of which you'd expect to get roughly half as private seller. There is however one reason you might get more for it right now, which is that it...

I'm still waiting for the day that Julian's Welsh Rarebit arrives at the table as a bowl of molten cheese (plus worcestershire sauce and possibly a touch of mustard, of course) with a piece of toast at the bottom!

Message from Bartholomew Broadbent to members of TPF attending tomorrow's tasting: I’m looking forward to the Broadbent Port Tasting tomorrow. Tomorrow happens to be the first day that my father’s new book, Wine Tasting goes on sale. I have the opportunity to pick up copies of them tonight. They are...

Wrong starter; but probably irrelevant if I can't make it.
In case you can make it — I hope so — please tell me the correct starter.

Re: RE: 2017 Vintage Ports

On balance, and to get as large a selection of final blends as we can, I would prefer w/c 9 Sep. Any thoughts on (a) do we do this — is there enough interest from the team? (b) if we do it, does w/c 9 Sep work for those interested? I think you may have forgotten that DRT has fixed the '66s for Sep ...

Re: RE: Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

I would like this tasting to be semi blind. I think it makes sense for everyone to declare what they bring so we get a good selection and avoid me doing the usual of guessing it’s a different port when it is the same. Excellent, and my preferred alternative as it happens. The usual way to achieve t...

Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

Ahem. CMAG was suggesting we do this blind. So we will have one bottle out of twelve that is known to be there and none of us except the Monkey will guess which it is. That depends how the organiser chooses to run this. We will all know at least one producer which is present (which we have supplied...

Re: 1977 Warre

This does not sound typical of this wine. In my experience Warre '77 can vary somewhat, but I would expect it to be a good medium/dark red colour still, and not oxidised. Since I hadn't opened on for a while, I've just decanted one; pics below for your colour comparison (against white tile), or atta...

An idea for another slightly different tasting: "Battle of the blends" Primarily to include cross-producer blends, such as: - Any Factory House vintages - Any Avery VP blends - Others? Depending on number of people/ports, we could extend the any VP blends, i.e. to include crusted, perhaps with limit...

Re: Do we need a 1966 Horizontal?

Two minor edits: the early weeks of Sep are erroneous as shown currently - both of "PW not avail 15th" and "DRT not avail 8th" are for Oct (not Sep), which would also make w/c Sep 9 empty, though I agree that w/c 10 Jun would be a good choice if DRT available then.

Re: Do we need a 1966 Horizontal?

I don't think we need to push it out that far. Deliberately ignoring July and August as too hot and holiday season, we don't currently have that many tastings planned this year, with nothing in June, (July, August), September or the first half of October. It would seem better to me to have a tasting...
