2014 Churchill

Tasted as part of the online Vintage Port Masterclass via Instagram live in May 2020.
Currently very terse and closed, making this difficult to assess. A wine to revisit in a decade or more.
Rating: Good/Very good (88-90)

1994 Churchill

Tasted as part of the online Vintage Port Masterclass via Instagram live in May 2020.
Unfortunately a faulty bottle, this was full of bottle stink (after a few hours this was still the same, if not worse) and undrinkable.
Rating: Not rated.

Re: How to preserve my port

Hi Chelse; I'm afraid I would not be as optimistic as Jacob's reply regarding the potential to be able to save this until November. Without trying to work out why the cork fell in, if we assume the wine is in perfect condition right now, the fact that the cork is no longer sealing the bottle means t...

Re: Ideas for tastings

Not that this is the best time to try and organise it for obvious reasons, but just to record it while I think of it: I think it would be very interesting to do an '03 vs '05 tasting at some point. I realise that '03 is the generally accepted best year, but have been very impressed with several '05s...

Re: RE: Re: Made from Port packaging

An idea stolen from AHB is to grow plants in them, although you can't easily do that with the Malvedos boxes that have a cardboard bottom. Indeed, I am yet to find a satisfactory for them since the cardboard isn't as robust as I'd like to use them for storage purposes. Also, any suggestions as to w...

If you're interested in doing a comparison of the Taylor 2005s, then Majestic are currently knocking out the Vargellas for £30, and the Terra Feita for £27.
I find 2005 to be an under-rated year; I'll have to look this up, ty.

Re: Tue 19th May - Churchill vintage masterclass e-tasting

This was enjoyable and interesting; Johnny and Ricardo shared interesting information, and covered a broad selection of questions. Regarding the ports, the following were my impressions in brief: - The current Churchills ports (at least from '05 onwards) all have quite a dry finish; this is delibera...

Tue 19th May - Churchill vintage masterclass e-tasting

As mentioned in another thread , Churchill have their vintage port masterclass e-tasting tonight at 8pm (BST) via Instagram. Bottles are Ch94(half), ChG05, Ch14(half), Ch14lbv(half) and ChG18 (cask sample); which I've just decanted (all except the cask sample) and can confirm that both the '14s need...

I'm not really expecting the 18s to have much to filter, but we'll see; the 05 will need it ofc. I'm going to decant this morning, rather than later.

Re: Port House abbreviations

Past practice seems to lead to BA, as we only rarely use more than 1 character except for disambiguation. Does Burmester have another Quinta that might need disambiguation from (A)rnozelo? Even if so, past practice seems to lead to first come first served, with only subsequent examples providing ne...

Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

Oscar will be open to questions during the tasting, delivered to him by the YouTube chat function. As a non-social-media-user, do I need to create a YouTube account for this? Absolutely nothing to stop some / all of us from zooming in parallel. If too many for one Zoom, we can run parallel Zoom ses...

I believe the wines are to be Ch94(half), ChG05, Ch14(half), Ch14lbv(half) and ChG18 (cask sample).
So a whole bottle of a cask sample. Unusual.
I read it more as a cask-sample sized bottle; probably the smaller/different shape smaller bottle in the photo.

Re: Churchill's Port tastings in May (with link to kits)

They’ve chose an arty picture, at low resolution, rather than a factual picture with high-def version. Which, with wording giving some but not all bottle sizes, leaves prospective purchasers unclear about what they might be getting. I believe the wines are to be Ch94(half), ChG05, Ch14(half), Ch14l...

I found Churchills fine. quinta de la Rosa was awful - PayPal payment was the only data I was asked for. No idea if order actually placed or coming! Sounds like we've had opposite issues, with no problem with QdlR order last month (shipping confirmation 3 days after order with tracking reference; o...

Re: Tue 14 and Thu 16 April 2020: Virtual Tasting with Johnny Graham

Taking place on Tue 19th May (in English) and Thu ...
