Re: A Taylor vertical, quite large

Hi there, I am also interested in this event, however I do not own a lot of Taylors Port (55 and 03, VV 00 and 04, Vargellas 91 and TF 99). Please count me in if still possible. Overall I would like also to warn in advance that this maybe stretching it. Despite I accept the heavy disagreement of DRT...

Re: 1984 Churchill Crusted Port

Must say I got it also completly wrong with this bottle. Thought/Guessed initially also it was a 1963. Found the wine quite complex and apealing. Liked that is was very smooth and soft. Was my third best wine of the night (after Quarles Harris 1980 and Malvedos 1987)

Re: 1967 Cockburn

Fully agree with you comments, just want to add that Cockburns 1967 is one of my favourite Ports to open to people who have not had any experience with older Ports to show how good it can be. It is indeed not a "blockbuster" port, but the quality is there despite it comes across as quite unobtrusive...

Re: 2007 Niepoort (formally "D") Vintage Port

with regards to sample D I liked the wine but was not really impressed as others were at the May offline. Overall I wrote not a lot about this wine which indicates to me that it just did not tickle my fancy :(

dark coulour, good Palate, but not great

Re: 2007 Quinta da Romaneira (formally "A") Vintage Port

Sample A I liked very much when we tried the wines for the first time in the Crusting Pipe. But then somehow it seems to have lost its apeal to me. :( very expressive nose, black currants, quite fat, lacks finesse, slight dry in the finish. Have tried one day later at home with a friend on which it ...

Re: 2007 Quinta do Crasto (formally "B") Vintage Port

must say I was not at all a fan of sample B. Based on Alex coments I guess it may have been a bad bottle

very dark colour, taste was rather thin and very sweet, not really interesting. Over the next couple of days this stayed as uninteressting as it was in the beginning I am afraid to say.

Re: 2007 Quinta do Noval Silval (formally "C") Vintage Port

with regards to sample C I liked most of this port that it became better with time

rubarb Fruit, not really great, a bit short. Over the next couple of days this got a bit better, developed loads of Chassis aromas and also quite a nice length. Still more a wine than a Port though

Re: 2007 Quinta do Noval (formally "E") Vintage Port

Apologies for the delay in posting my scribblings but after my holiday I had quite a tough week. Of the 5 samples I liked E most; very dark, black fruits, very balanced, quite long in the finish. Haveing tried it a day later it was even better, really good composition. The only wine which really exh...

Re: Wood-Matured Port, Dockmaster's House, London,20 or 27 April

Hi there, apologies for my late reply. I would be interested as well. But I am not in favour of the date either. The main reason is football (want to go to Barcelona - Chelsea in the Nou Camp on the 28th of April). If absolutely necessary I could do the 20th of April. Since I drank my Niepoort 1976 ...

Re: June 11th - A Small 1991 Horizontal

Hi there,

would be very happy to attend to this tasting. 1991 Ports I could contribute are Vargellas, Dow, Grahams, Morgan, Niepoort, Warre and Smith Woodhouse. Warre and Smith Woodhouse are currently not easily accessible for me and also would like to avoid opening cases.

Re: London Quinta De Vargellas tasting - 24th March

Hi there, after having had to overcome quite some significant "Muppettism" of the courier company I can report finally the standard bts of 1991 Vargellas arrived. So the worst case half bt of Vargellas 1991 from Axel in case the standard bts would not arrive in time can go back to the shelf :D cu ne...

Re: London Quinta De Vargellas tasting - 24th March

Will do, it is highly likely that I will open the bt 24h in advance if the 91 Vargallas is shipped in time if not told otherwise. Can we do the Decanting at the Crusting pipe? I will ask Axel what he recomend with regards to his 1996. Have you got any experience with the 1991/1996?

Re: London Quinta De Vargellas tasting - 24th March

Hi, Ho hope the 91 Vargallas will be shipped in time. Looks all good at the moment. With regards to decanting times of Vargallas I think we should open the bts at least 1 day in advance. Decanting is another thing but at least the bt should be opened before hand. With regards to decanting time I wou...

Re: London Quinta De Vargellas tasting - 24th March

Lads,

with a little bit of luck I will turn up with a standard bt of Quinta de Vargallas 1991 on the 24th of March in TCP. If the worst case scenario happens I will bring Axels half bt of 1991.

Hope this is OK.

All the best

Hi Derek, apologies in the delay of my response, but I disagree with you. The smell of the 1970 Grahams bt (Corney&Barrow bt and from my cellar) at the tasting was similar to nail varnish remover. At the tasting I was still a bit unsure since I did not have a reference taste/bt to hand and also was ...

Hi there, to some extend I am not really sure what to say. So I hope with the following text to fullfill the criteria set for a proper introduction. As probably most members of this forum I do love Port. However this was not always the case. I learned how amazing they can be very late. Before I was ...
