Well, it depends on who you talk to in the Douro about aging Colheita's in bottle. Some, such as Niepoort, believe that colheita's can and do age in bottle. Some, such as Barros, believe the opposite. Personnally, I think younger ones will age some, but the older ones don't really age all that much....

alex,

I've had several corked colheita's and the rate seems to run just a little lower than VP's, in my experience. That is probably becuase I open more VP's than Colheita's, so I'd say the rate runs about the same.

No, Noval missed the boat on declaring 1977 and declared 1978 instead. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose when guessing what would be the better vintage...they lost on that decision.

I used one of those compressed air/needle things at a friends last night. I would not be comfortable using that on an old bottle. Modern glass maybe, as long as there was no flaws in the glass...but no way to tell until it explodes. So until something better comes out, i'll stick to tongs or an Ah-S...

Andy , after Simon's interrogation of the Hood, and the others hearty criticism, do you intend to give it a bash, or are you 'laying it down'? Alan PS. Are there many M&S stores over there? No stores over here...I took that pic at the TFP building. As for laying it down...YES, should be hitting...

My understanding, and what I've been told, is producers cannot SELL any Vintage Port in anything larger than a magnum. However, they can (and do) bottle larger formats that are given away as gifts (The 3L of Sandeman Vau Vintage most recently comes to mind). I've seen plenty of double mags and some ...
