Was this the pipe which had been purchased by the family living in a country house and bottled for them by Findlater Mackie & Todd?

Re: The Book, ‘Port Vintages’, is for sale

The author has confessed to finding an error in his copy of The Book. One error in 395,000 words.

I am deeply impressed and look forward enormously to receiving my copy. On Christmas Day I shall be ignoring the family and reading The Book.

Re: Latest buy

Waitrose (or my nearest store, at least) are having something of a sale on at the moment with LBVs. Warre 2004 (rooted behind the 2007s..!) £18 :) A great price for either vintage - I love these with anything up to 40 years of bottle age on them. Three bottles of Taylor 77. Might do one on Christma...

Re: Humblebragging here in NY

I don't have any Dow quite so old, but if you decide to open it — New York or London — I'll pony up a Dow 1908 to go alongside it. I've long wanted to try the 1908 and being paired with the 1896 would be a great way to try it.

PS - if New York would probably need to be late Oct 2019 or after.

Re: Wine Spectator Top 100 2018

Warre is consitently a lovely, lovely Port when mature. I've yet to be disappointed by a mature Warre and often been very pleasantly surprised.

Zak - welcome to the Forum. Experience has shown that the main benefit of TPF for UK based members over FTLOP is that we are a smaller country so manage to get together more often. Please do come and join us for one of our tastings. And congratulations on finding a Port from 1993. There's not much a...

How to spell "Port"

I received a very interesting request today from George Sandeman. As many of you know, George is a figurehead and representative of the wines from the Douro region, especially the fortified wines. One of the ways in which he is working to distinguish the fortified wines from the Douro is to ensure t...

Re: Krohn Mini Vertical - End March????

I like Krohn's ports so would be interested in attending, subject to the date. But I don't really have much Krohn at home so would probably need to adopt please.

Re: Sandeman 1942 - another question...

I’d definitely be up for a tasting and could contribute a bottle or two of equally rare or unusual port.

And I’ve wanted to visit 67 Pall Mall for a while, so that would be a great choice of venue.

Re: Sandeman 1942 - another question...

1942 was a very good but very small vintage. No-one was available to work the vineyards so very little was bottled. There isn’t a tasting note since I don’t think any of us have tasted it! That’s definitely a bottle that other Port lovers would very much like to share with you (and, I’m sure, would ...

Re: 2011 Horizontal - London, Sunday 23rd April 2051

Over the past 5 years I appear to have acquired a handful of other bottles from the 2011 vintage. I will put neck labels on them to ensure I don't drink them before St George's Day 2051. The additional bottles I could contribute to the tasting are: Berry Brothers Own Label {magnum} Duorum Quinta de ...

2016 Ferreira

Fruit principally sourced from Quinta do Porto. Wonderful fruit dominates the nose. Thick, smooth and rounded entry with the fruit poised on the tongue. Tannins are fierce and dominate the mid-palate, overwhelming the fruit on the late palate — but never completely. A great combination of powerful g...

I wish! Given how little time I have spare, useful ideas such as this one will have to wait for a future b.f.t. beyond 2019.

2016 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria

Deep purple, expressive nose of fresh blueberry. Lovely textured entry, smooth and velvety and a great grip that settles quickly before the fruit comes back quickly. Fruity and perfumed. 88-90/100. Drunk 26-Sep-18.

2016 Quinta de la Rosa

Purple and opaque. An amazing nose full of fruit, one of the most fragrant ports from this vintage. The fruit is ripe and lush on the palate and comes with a good grip. This is a lovely fruit-dominated port with plenty of grip which can be drunk early or aged for up to 20-30 years. La Rosa have clea...

3,500 bottles produced, available in the UK through Corney & Barrow. Deep red colour with a very narrow rim. Effusive fruit on the nose, very powerful and dominating. On the palate this has a smooth texture with sweet strawberry fruit and delicious charcoal tannins, the tannins deliver a great dark ...
