Useful links to other port related sites

I was looking for links to the websites of the Port Clubs in Scandinavia this lunchtime and realised that I would have to Google them. Having done so, I thought I might be able to save other people a little time by listing them here: Den Fynske Portvinsklub of Odense, Denmark vintageport.se of South...

Re: The Port Garrotte -- a bottle opening tool

I thought I'd nudge this thread as I used my garrotte a couple of times this Autumn and it is still working very well.

Re: The second 100k EUR Port

Dirk said, that the old VV contains 50% 1863 Colheita... The datasheet for the new VV states that this also contains the 1863 as its base wine, but this time a garrafeira which had been in barrel until 1972 and then bottled in demijohn until being decanted and used in the 999 bottles of 170th anniv...

I'd like a closer look at the bottle to gauge its age, but I've never heard of the port or the shipper before.

Re: The second 100k EUR Port

Great video, and I’m really pleased for Dirk with the result of the auction.

But that’s going to make it much more expensive to buy the Niepoort VV now - if I can only find a bottle!

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Waitrose online does include fortifieds. I bought 6 bottles of Noval 2015 Bin 08 QT (the equuivalent of Noval Silval 2015) for £37.50 per bottle, duty paid. Some of you may have seen the empty at the B&F in the Red Room (that wasn't mine - that's how I found out about this particular wine).

Re: 2011 Horizontal - London, 23rd April 2051

Could we add the fact that it is a Sunday to the title? Have we booked a room at the B&F? Hopefully we will be able to get the Red Room — but I'm not sure what are the opening hours of the B&F on Sunday.

And yes, I am still in.

1994 Fonseca

A half bottle purchased from the Tappit Hen @£70. Dark red, hardly mature. Lots of fruit flowing from the bottle while it was being decanted. Hugely fruity on the nose and the palate but still with firm tannins. Just so incredibly young and unevolved. Great port — for 20 years time! 95/100. Drunk 29...

The East India club have Fonseca 1985 magnums @£150c Taylor 1992 @ £100 or Noval 1995 @ £65.

The Oxford and Cambridge have Taylor 1994 at a similar price.

Any preference where we dine?

My plans have changed slightly and it will now be difficult for me to print the placemats. Is anyone else able to?

I was also reminded on Friday that I haven’t organised a food order. If anyone would like something other than their default food order, please say so before 2pm on Monday.

Ideally not the Monday night please, as I am likely to be in Ipswich - although I can rearrange if required.

Theme: Broadbent , he supplying 2000, ’03, ’07, ’11, ’15. Perhaps from us also 1994 and 1997 (which would be complete); and, numbers permitting, a second course of older Ports from our cellars. Do you have any guidance to give as to the theme for the second course? Should we all bring an extra bott...

Re: Dow's Christmas port?

It's a basic ruby port which was (is?) sold in UK supermarkets at a particular time of year. It's a little cruel to describe this as a "basic" ruby port although absolutely technically correct. This is a port from specially selected lotes that are blended together to make a ruby port that has tones...

1997 Warre

Available by the glass or bottle from the Port Gaverne Hotel in North Cornwall. Sweet slightly herby fruit on the nose. Lots of sweet strawberry jam on the palate with tannins that are almost fully integrated. Modest levels of acidity means this particular wine lacks the usual elegance of Warre. Som...

2016 The Liberator Episode 9 Revisited

This is a Calitzdorp (South Africa) based Cape Vintage wine from Boplaas, fortified to 18%. See this link for more details. Hints of magenta on the rim; looking to be in late babyhood. Herbs and fruit on the nose; fresh fruit that is sweet and ripe. Amazingly light and spritely on the palate with sw...

AHB and MPM have confirmed they would be interested in dinner. Are people happy to go to one of the Clubs round the corner from BBR?
