Re: Wed 1st May 2019, Broadbent Port, at the B&F

I'm sure I could be persuaded to bring something else as well as the BB94, probably from the '80s.

Re: Quinta do Noval Olive Oil

I think Douro olive oil is going to totally take off and there will be a large increase in production over the years to come. As I have said before I think a table of olive oils at trade shows would be great. I have seen them sold in wine shops so a natural move! I agree with you. At a couple of tr...

I always and consistently find Warre to be beautifully balanced and very elegant, especially when mature.

Re: Quinta do Noval Olive Oil

I have just taken delivery of the winter 2018/19 vintage of Quinta do Noval olive oil. There are a dozen bottles which have not yet been allocated a home. Anyone who would like some and hasn't already let me know, please post below or send me an email. As last year, the cost is £10 per 50cl bottle w...

Re: 2017 Vintage Ports

14 October is Columbus Day in the US, which my company oddly grants as a holiday. I might possibly be able to attend on that day, then fly home on Tuesday and only miss 1 day of work. I will keep an eye on this thread and start looking into flights if things work out. That gives me a real conflict....

Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

Can I put in a request to attend my first tasting, or is this one now full? I'm looking to expand my collection of 94's and this could give me just the information I need (plus my wife is away on the proposed date so I'm certain to get a pass for the evening :)) It’s not full, so I’m sure Christoph...

Re: Delaforce 1980 & Grahams 1983 cases for sale [with pics]

James, I live not far from you in Wokingham. Although these aren't Ports I'd be interested in buying, I'd be happy to come round to where the bottles are and take a look at them. I can let you know what I think of them and perhaps a good way of selling them. If you'd like to take me up on the offer,...

Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

I was really surprised when I looked to see what I have to offer. Apart from the Broadbent (of which I have only the one being consumed on 1 May) the only other bottle of 1994 Vintage Port I have at home is Vesuvio. This is what I was intending to bring to the 1994 horizontal. If I have to bring som...

Re: RE: 2017 Vintage Ports

On balance, and to get as large a selection of final blends as we can, I would prefer w/c 9 Sep. Any thoughts on (a) do we do this — is there enough interest from the team? (b) if we do it, does w/c 9 Sep work for those interested? I think you may have forgotten that DRT has fixed the '66s for Sep ...

Tue 25 June 2019 - 2017 Vintage Ports

UPDATE 25 April 2019 A date has been set, we will convene on 25th June 2019 to taste, discuss and debate as many 2017 Vintage Ports as producers are willing to provide. If you would like to attend, please let me know. Attendance requires you to post some tasting notes and thoughts on each of the wi...

Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

I would like this tasting to be semi blind. I think it makes sense for everyone to declare what they bring so we get a good selection and avoid me doing the usual of guessing it’s a different port when it is the same. By being semi blind we avoid label bias and I think makes it a bit more fun. It w...

Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

Would a Ramos Pinto 1994 be useful? I have others — will report back on Sunday, so should be able to bring more than one. I was going to ask the same. I have one that was a gift from the house that is occupying a space in my fridge that could be used for something else. Julian, I am happy for you t...

Re: 1994 Mini Horizontal

I’m in. And I like the idea of doing it blind, or at least semi-blind.

You could get someone not attending to do the admin if you wanted to make sure there were no duplicates at the tasting.

2017 Declarations

This thread is to hold the details of the Vintage Ports from the 2017 vintage. An asterisk next to the shipper indicates that a tasting note is on TPF for the Port (with a link to the TN). First to declare (at least the first I have heard officially declare) is Niepoort on March 18th with their offi...

Re: 1977 Graham

You were lucky! The "sand" is probably cork crumbs, which is evidence of cork weevil (aka woodworm) having attached the cork. If it had got to the wine it would have given it that horrible flavour we were talking about at the Christmas offline.

2004 Taylor Vargellas

Brick red, 90% opaque. Lots of strawberry jam on the nose. Young but very approachable and surprisingly well balanced. Soft and chewy aftertaste and a great second wind on the finish. 88 14-Mar-19

2005 Taylor Terra Feita

More mature in appearance than the 2001 shown alongside; 70% opaque. Restrained and youthful on the palate with the tannins swamping the fruit. Dry and unbalanced, but with a great freshness from the acidity. One day, this will be a lovely wine. 91 14-Mar-19

2001 Taylor Terra Feita

Deep rose red colour, 90% opaque. Lovely fruit on the nose. Soft entry with alpine strawberry and orange blossom. Big tannins, but ripe and sweet giving great grip. Tannins give a wonderful aftertaste and a nice chocolate and cherry finish. 89 14-Mar-19

NV Taylor First Estate

This represented a very interesting opportunity to compare and contrast the NV Croft Finest Reserve (and Triple Crown) against the Taylor First Estate. The Croft is sweet, rounded and full of lush fruit. The Taylor is much more structured and austere, with the fruit being steely and full of minerali...

One of the few bottles of Vintage Port I have ever poured down the sink. Slightly better after leaving in the decanter overnight, but not good. Full of VA, sharp and acidic on the palate. Not pleasant. NR 14-Mar-19 2019 39 1 hour

NV Croft 430th Anniversary

Deep red, nicely balanced between maturity and youth; 90% opaque. Very attractive gentle nose of sweet bramble fruit. Nicely balanced on the palate with generous sweet fruit, and tannins which appear with a bit of work. Sweet fruit on the finish. This is enjoyable, easy to drink and finishes with pa...

NV Croft Triple Crown

A reserve ruby from Croft. Soft red colour with more pigment than the finest reserve; 50% opaque. Subdued nose, soft entry with sweet red fruit that brings some slightly stewed bramble. Nicely structured on the palate bringing a spicy edge to the fruit on the aftertaste and a lovely, good length fin...
