1948 Mackenzie

A bottle from a stash of 40s and 50s acquired from Corney & Barrow a few years ago. They were below the usual C&B sales standard so were sold at heavily reduced prices. The six bottles of 1948 Mackenzie I was lucky enough to secure cost £24 each... On receipt the Mackenzies all appeared to be in goo...

A very pleasant bottle of Enrico Santini’s Montepergoli 2001 with dinner this evening, followed by a surprisingly good, low shoulder bottle of Mackenzie 1948 (tasting note to follow).v

Re: TPF pre-NYE party 29th December 2020

We all brought Cockburn 1955. It did make for a splendid dinner. “ A very boring offline ”, as reported. Reading this prompted me to wonder if a tasting of different bottlers of the same Port should go onto the list of potential future events? If so, what are the candidates? As a starter, I think I...

Re: Festive Drinking 2020

Selections for this evening and tomorrow made and recovered from cellar: Xmas Eve Dom Perignon 2000 (will hopefully pair nicely with monkfish) and opening a slightly leaky Taylor 77. Xmas Day A couple of glasses of Lustau East India to kick things off, then with dinner Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montr...

There will always be some general interest, but the next questions are always where are you (country & area), what you’re expecting to get for it, delivery costs, etc?

Re: Festive Drinking 2020

23/12/20 - Chateau Beaucastel CNDP 2005.
Still quite tannic (as evidenced by minimal sediment) but drinking nicely and stood up well to a rather lively Madras.

Festive Drinking 2020

As per last year thought it might be nice to have a conversation about what we’re all drinking (port and otherwise) over the festive period.

I’ll kick off with a very pleasant bottle of Kirwan 2002 last night. Drinking nicely now, but no need to rush to finish up.

Only 60 BT’s for the UK - where are the rest going?
Tony - did you manage to secure any?

Corney & Barrow had an allocation of just two bottles (which I have just been offered).

Does anybody have a subscription, with access to its archive, to The Times? Was this much discussed in that newspaper (which back then was the newspaper of record)?
I do. Will have a look.

Corney & Barrow has the 61 Taylor for £200 per bottle in bond, or six for £1150.
That seems like a similar pricing structure to the 50YO releases, rather than much of an additional premium for the extra decade of age.
Release price for the 1970 was £875/6ib.

Perhaps they don’t have any 1971 to sell?
The 1970 was released in May this year (and my memory is that previous releases were at a similar time of year), so would suggest that we won’t know until mid 2021.

I’ve done so too. I am sure there are cheaper ways of buying Port but I like Churchill; it seems good value; and I think we should encourage these sorts of things!
I enjoyed being able to gift a pack too - and my recipient was very pleased.
Also joined up. Gifted the bonus pack to Mrs NAC.
