Re: 1991 Horizontal Tasting - Monday 9th December 2019 - B&F

The only adoptee I can offer to add to the list (without broaching an owc) is the Noval. This went through a really awkward phase, but my most recent notes (10/13, 8/16, 10/17) show a clear pattern of improvement Thank you. Noval accepted. Please message me the cost. Draft of placemats updated. Som...

Re: 1991 Horizontal Tasting - Monday 9th December 2019 - B&F

Apologies, I haven’t been attentive to this. Draft of placemats now made. Doubtless corrections to follow. Problem : I need to adopt, and can’t afford the Nacional. Please, does anybody have something I could adopt that isn’t already being brought (so not D, G, W, V, SW, GC, CkC, Mg, TV, FG, Cr, Rs,...

Pricing Money: A Beginner’s Guide to Money. Bonds, Futures and Swaps

I wrote Pricing Money: A Beginner’s Guide to Money. Bonds, Futures and Swaps way back in 2001. The publisher, Wiley, has just reverted the copyright to me, so the book is available online, free, at www.jdawiseman.com/PricingMoney.html . #PricingMoney is a very clearly written beginner’s guide, suita...

Re: Software that makes placemats

I tend to prefer a single pattern on a set of placemats - or at least a coherent one; so: - outline or solid wording, with pattern filling in circles and clear background - outline or solid wording, with clear circles and pattern filled background - pattern-filled wording, with clear circles and cl...

Re: Software that makes placemats

Is it the shape of the flowers versus that of the stars? Or is it that in the examples above the stars are pale on pale, whereas the flowers are pale on dark? Compare, for example, the 1963 horizontal on 10 April 2018 . http://www.jdawiseman.com/2018/20180410_1963s_g0.png http://www.jdawiseman.com/2...

Re: Software that makes placemats

For some reason filling the glasses circle is more appealing to me than filling the empty space between glasses. Is this a quirky feature of Simon and our American cousins (and hence perhaps ignorable), or is this a general preference? Quite liked the spirals, flowers and crosshatching. Not sold on...

Re: Software that makes placemats

Personally on the latest iteration for the Rebello Valente tasting, I think the droplets detract from the classic nature of the placemat and is like a very light version of Pollock’s number 14. I am all for pimping up the mats but this one is not for me... thoughts? I’d like to know what others thi...

Re: Rebello Valente, and de la Rosa, Thu 21 Nov 2019, Boot & Flogger

Very interesting. RV, up to the 1960s, is soft, delicate, and dry (especially mid-palate).

The side-by-side with de la Rosa was always close, Rosa winning ʼ70, Rebello winning ʼ60 and ʼ63.

And a big thank you to Phil for organising. Very interesting.

RV72. Glorious red, 50% opaque. Soft red cherry, a hint of _La Tour Blanche_, medium weight , sweet throughout the palate, lovely balance. Showing really well. I really like.

The best ʼ72 I recall tasting.

RV70. Red brown, 35% opaque. Some red cherry, dry mid palate (but less dry than others), lovely mouthfeel. I like this. A good, but not great, ʼ70, on the edge of drying out. Drink up, and with pleasure.

RV66. Red orange, 25% opaque. Light, hollow, not a proper ʼ66. The key adjective is for me, hollow.

Rs60. Red pink, 20%. Light, a hint of menthol, very dry mid palate, hint of red fruit — almost raspberry. Long, with sweetness into the length.

Later: time in glass has slightly faded this.

RV42. Orange red, 25%. Nose of burnt elastic bands (rightly says Sofia), and disconcerting. Palate light, weaker version of the burnt, and thins quickly in palate. Dry ending. Not loved.

Later: larger, softer, still full and long. Showing very well.

There won’t be adoption; there will be a financial rebalancing. The organiser of this tasting is THRA himself, for whom JDAW will sometimes act as secretary. JDAW emphasises that he is not the organiser. Tom himself, rather than via me, will organise the costs and money (if only because he will brin...

Start is usually advertised as being 6½pm. No problem: I’m not objecting to the extra thirty minutes of tasting time.
