Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

OK next steps are: - check with B&F about 28 in The Ovens - assuming that is OK, book the Ovens and publish the date here When that happens, the current sequence of attendees is as below. When the date gets published, folks need to reconfirm, and we’ll see where things end up. AHB MPM Gerwin THRA BM...

Re: Tarriffs on shipping port to the US

Just rumours for the moment. 25% tariffs introduced late last year in response to subsidies given to Airbus. Lots of negative reaction to that from US buinsesses. Suggestions of 100% as part of a wider EU-US trade war. My guess is the next 2 years will be turbulent for tariffs all round, as the UK n...

With five of us confirmed, I’ll book the Green Room instead, as it doesn’t feel like we’ll get many more takers.

Weds 5th Feb 2020 - Bring a bottle to share

Feeling unsettled by the absence of scheduled tastings in the coming months. How does this date work for a get-together at the B&F? Theme is bring some port to share, from the '70s or '80s. Venue: The Green Room, The Boot & Flogger ( Google maps ). Timing: 6 for 6:30 People: MPM; IDJ; CPR; TC; NAC; ...

Re: RE: Re: Ideas for tastings

Who's the best contact at B&F to check room availability? Once I've got some date options I'll open up the list... I usually just dial the main number and say I'd like to check a date for a Port Forum booking. Invariably it's one of the managers or shift supervisors that picks up. Best to call betw...

Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

Would it be terrible if there was more than one 1970 tasting in 2020? I would suggest you crack on, Mike. If anyone else wants to do it differently they can do so in their own way. :D I'm still keen to do the big 70 tasting and happy to assist in organising. However, might well do some form of addi...

Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

*** Calling the '70 babies *** I think '70 babies = Axel, Wolfgang, Ben, Neil. Is there anyone else? We have a decision point now. It seems that the B&F might be an option for a 28 person tasting. Were any of you hoping/intending/determined to have this 50th anniversary tasting somewhere more specia...

a placemat can be 1.5 of A4 paper, so at tasting time, we could potentially fit a few more settings in.
People are wider than 1×A3 = 2×A4 = 420mm.
Imdeed this is true. The simple check required is whether 14 chairs with a modicum of space between, can fit in the length of the Ovens.

Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

Many thanks Alex, Derek, George, Julian, Phil for comments. Feels like we're getting there with a format. I think the challenge now is to find a venue for 28. Does anyone know if The Ovens can cope with 28? One consideration is that with mini flights of no more than 10, a placemat can be 1.5 of A4 p...

Re: 1970 Horizontal - Tier 3 ports

I think we’re tending towards evening before for the Tier 3s. We now need any of the other 24 people who expressed interest in the horizontal and do want to taste Tier 3 to vote in order to establish how many for Tier 3. Perhaps better to focus on the main event first and re-visit this once the dat...

1970 Horizontal - Tier 3 ports

This poll is seeking to figure out who is interested in tasting the Tier 3 ports at the 1970 Horizontal, and when these Tier 3 ports should be tasted. The poll might result in no firm conclusion, but at least will give an indication of who is interested. If you are interested, please use the poll to...

Some thoughts on the thoughts above. Please try and give comments against the tentative conclusions I have outlined in bold . Re: Ideas for tastings

Is there any interest in an occasional non-port tasting/dinner? I'd be up for something non port. I think the challenge though, will be finding a wine that enough people here hold, to make a tasting viable. Of course if someone alone had a deep vertical of Pétrus that they want to lay on at a nice ...
