Re: Port Decanters - what shape is best?
That bottle that was open for 3 days.... do you just leave it in the decanter with the stopper (assuming you have a stopper) for the entire period of time? Do you pour back into the orig bottle. The only decanter I have with a stopper, has a glass one. and is not 100% air tight, I'm guessing 3 days ...

Re: Glasses: what to buy; where to buy?
Hey all, just wanted to say that after reviewing this thread, I purchased 4 Riedel Vinum Port glasses, and could not be happier. Thanks for the insight.

Re: Port Decanters - what shape is best?
Follow up question. I've read how a lot of people will decant every wine they drink, be it a $400.00 bottle, or a 5-buck cheapie. Others just decant the "big" bottles. My question to you all here is, if you have the time, do you try to decant all the port you drink? VPs, as well as Tanwies...

Re: Port Decanters - what shape is best?
I just picked up this one (not just for port) was $29.99 at "Canadian Tire"; http://www.wineenthusiast.com/final-touch-flavour-enhancer-aerator-decanter-set.asp http://www.finaltouchwine.com/WDA909.html The one I usually use for port kind of looks like the one here: http://cn1.kaboodle.com...

Re: Port Decanters - what shape is best?
So I guess the traditional "Hoggett" http://www.haroldcox.com/images/products/silverware/27-4672-150x250.jpg would prob not be best with its narrower base. Another question, if the worst happens, and you can not finish the bottle you have decanted (I know, but it might happen), do you pour...

Port Decanters - what shape is best?
Hello, what shape decanter do you find best for VPs? Do you use the standard wine decanters most seen these days (very wide base, very narrow neck) like this one:

Or do you use something else?

Port / cheese pairings
Hello, I'm planning a small Port night/tasting with a couple friends. Nothing formal, no spitting, no notes being taken. Just plan to open a decent Vintage bottle, a 20 yr Tawny, and a standard LBV to compare and contrast amongst ourselves. We're all big cheese fans, so naturally I want to get a goo...

Re: Home Brew!!
I used to home brew wine back in my early - mid 20s..... just yesterday I was going through the bottles in my 250 bottle vintage keeper and noticed I still have a few from back in the day.... dated 1996. I wonder if they'll be drinkable, or pretty much vinegar.....

bman (and all) thanks for the info.
Carmans - my fav restaurant of all time. eaten there 40 - 60 times over the last 20 years. Sadly, this 50-year old Toronto land-mark just closed for good. It will be sadly missed. The avatar image here is my little cyber-homage.

Hello from the great white north .... need some advice
Hello, although I have been a fan of port for years, my experience has sadly been limited to the cheep stuff. You know, the usual selection of current LBVs, Rubys, and the occasional 10 yr old Tawny. (feel free to shed tears for my sad state) ;) Anyway, I want to get my feet wet with some vintage bo...
