2000 Taylor, a very pleasant drink shared over the last couple of days with wife and daughter. I realize it is too young, but Armageddon rules apply.

Re: Latest buy

3 x Croft 2000 2 x Vesuvius 1991 ...and inspired by recent LBV conversation (and aware that this is an area where my cellar is under stocked), so made use of the 25% off at Waitrose Cellar to get 4 each of: - Graham’s LBV 2013 - Sandeman LBV 2015 - Warre’s LBV 2007 I have found the 2000 Croft to be...

Re: Tarriffs on shipping port to the US

My understanding on the 25% tariff was that for wines over 14% alcohol content, the tariff was unchanged.

It is all so very confusing.

Tarriffs on shipping port to the US

There is a great deal of noise about 100% tarriffs on European wine. Might anybody know what the current situation is, and/or how it might change? I have looked at a number of sites on the web, but I am more confused than enlightened. I would very much like to ship a large parcel in the Spring, but ...

1991 Fonseca Guimaraens

Decanted six hours. 75% opaque. Somewhat closed - dusty, perhaps, with hints of cherry on the nose. Full, rich, round, young, with flavour of plums or prunes. Very enjoyable, but at its best on the first day. Seems a very different wine than the one at the London horizontal earlier in the month, and...

Re: Hello from Iowa! New to port.

Excellent beginning. It is nice to know that there is another good collection in the Midwest (much of mine is in Central Illinois, a bit of a hike from Des Moines). It is very easy - and pleasant - to get hooked on vintage port, and I wish you many an enjoyable occasion, which I hope will result in ...

A bottle of 1994 Graham in early July. Wonderful as always, and more whence that came.

"The Abbey Grange". In the 1986 Granada television production, Sherlock Holmes notices that one of three glasses of port had much more sediment than the other two, leading him to believe that the story he had been told about the chain of events was untrue.

1994 Graham

Cork surprisingly crumbly. Decanted 8 hours. Opaque. Nose somewhat closed on first day. Spicy and rich, tasting of figs and chocolate. Long tannic finish. The second day was softer and rounder, making for a very pleasant drink. Many, many years still to go for this one.

Got to see the partial solar eclipse this morning in Tokyo - about a third, it seemed. Was lucky enough to see the full eclipse several years ago, as well.

One of the bottles from the Bonham's sale. It has not done well, and the lot of them probably need to be rewaxed. The first two from the case were excellent, and the second two were not. The bottle had seeped signficantly, being down to bottom shoulder, and the cork crumbled to bits; the corks seem ...

Re: Staying at Quinta de la Rosa

Having stayed there last month, I can also say that the Quinta de la Rosa is a very pleasant place. We got the last room for the time that we were there, and it was quite comfortable. The restaurant is very good, breakfast was nice, and the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. Would be delig...

2005 Quinta de la Rosa

At QdlR's restaurant. Not decanted, but straight from the freshly opened bottle - definitely needed a proper decant. Probably not fair given the circumstances, but nearly opaque, initially very alcoholic. Taste of prunes, not terribly well knit. My guess is that a proper decant with time in the deca...

Me too I sit in Porto airport after my TAP 12:30 flight was cancelled, and after having waited two hours in line for a rescheduling. They offered me a 9:30 pm flight from Porto to Lisbon or a four hour bus ride to Lisbon airport. I was able to negotiate a spot on a 6:30 pm flight, which has been del...

Recommendations for travel to the Douro in late June

My wife and I are considering our first trip to the Douro in late June for two or three nights, and would be grateful for recommendations as to where to stay, where to eat (wife is a serious foodie), wines to drink, and things to see. Neither of us drive, so we rely on taxis and feet. I saw the sugg...
