Re: BBR VP Tasting-Tuesday 22 September 2020

As expected, BBR confirmed that it will not be presently possible to hold the tasting in the format proposed ; they can only host a maximum of 8 persons and that is for a tutored tasting. Another one to add to next year's expanding list!

Re: BBR VP Tasting-Tuesday 22 September 2020

Ian, I've just had an email from Berry's saying that they are reopening their cellars and entertainment spaces in St James's. Are we likely to see this tasting take place? Alex Funnily enough whilst I was away on hols (until the beginning of this week) I received an e-mail from the chap at BBR who ...

Re: Wednesday 12 August - The Boot & Flogger?

Am running late on account of work and so ETA likely to be 7.30. Can someone therefore order me steak (m/r) and chips plus some greens and with Truffle Mac to start? Thanks!

Re: Monday 17 August - Hawksmoor Air Street?

Slight problem - all the Hawksmoors that are open in London are fully booked on Mondays in August. It seems lots of wine lovers had the same idea as me but were quicker off the mark. I'm on the waiting list but may need to organise an alternative venue at short notice. The B&F reopens on 5 August! ...

Re: Samples with cases of ports

I don't think an exercise like this needs to be down to the producers. Once bottles have been shipped and are outside the control of the IVDP / producers you can decant into different formats as you please. I own the only three Tappit Hens of Quinta do Vesuvio 2011 that exist. I own them because I ...

Re: Samples with cases of ports

Another option would be to have such sample bottles available across a range in order to try 'on approval'. You could then be credited against the cost of the sample (which shouldn't cost much any case) if you go back and buy the full size bottle or case. Strikes me that this approach would likely w...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

GM06 now £16.80 (or at least it is at my local Sainsbury's). Buy it all. How do they sell it so cheap? They certainly aren’t buying it that cheap. They did the same with the 05 at another Sainsbury's and was a precursor to them clearing down their stock and effectively dumbing down the range of Por...

I’d be up for this and like Glenn I could make a Friday or Saturday work. Maybe given Glenn’s comments elsewhere, we should re-evaluate the 85s?

Re: Port cocktails

Yes, my wife described this ruby Port tonic as a "Port sangria', which isn't a bad description. As for the River Quintas, I'm quite a fan of the regular Six Grapes but it's not so easy to find in the UK as it tends to be reserved (so to speak) more for the US market I believe (leaving the UK for the...

Re: Port cocktails

I tried the Alhambra yesterday (Saturday) using Graham's Six Grapes (River Quintas edition to be precise) rather than a LBV. We also increased the 10 ml as that appeared a bit stingy (the only other element that differed was an absence of orange bitters). Both my wife and I agreed that it was really...

It was Calem Foz 82 and a very lovely Port it was, fruit filled and we'll balanced with plenty of years ahead of it. Probably one of the best 82s I have tasted.

Ok-confession; I took a Port to a small (within guidelines) gathering last week only later to find that no tasting note currently exists for this Port on the Forum. Alas, I neglected to take one...(sackcloth and ashes)!

I agree regarding the 86 Malvedos-; we had it at a tasting the other year and if I recall rightly (I could be wrong) it was WOTN.

Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

Yes. I thoroughly enjoyed that and once again, a big thank-you to Tony, Alex and Ben and, of course, Oscar, for organising. It would certainly be good if we could arrange a further one to include the white colheita. Now off to finish what's left of my bottles (which isn't very much)!

Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

Enjoyed Oscar's tasting last night and have now just decanted the two VPs for this evening (the 2005 threw quite a bit of sediment, suggesting a degree of maturity). The LBV is stoppered and will leave the decanting until a bit later. I very much enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to tonight! Osca...
