Re: Port storage advice needed

The reason (I suspect..) is that commercial room chillers intended primarily for beer cellars operate by cutting in when the room reaches a certain temperature, and then cutting out when the temperature has dropped by a couple of degrees. And that is exactly the reason that I advised the OP to use ...

Re: To sell or not to sell 1975 vintage port

Hi Laura, '" It's my vintage ;-).. I would we willing to offload two of your bottles, just for the fun of it (I'm saving up on '75s, planning to open them all up on my birthday). However, I'm on the other side of the channel and even though I will probably be in the UK somewhere in the next few...

Re: Port storage advice needed

H Insulating the compartment in a rare fit of DIY might work, but then again it might not. It's an awkwardly shaped room and I've got no clue as to how much insulation would be needed ... This is a no brainer! If you already have a cellar/room which you are willing to commit completely to wine stor...

Re: Questions about tawny, colheita and vintage years

Colheita's can be aged in stainless steel (SS). While typically they are aged in barrel, if the evolution is progressing too fast they can be placed in SS tanks to slow that oxidation process down. Would this be in conjunction with the regulations? They state: " «Vinho do Porto com data de co...

Re: Good port retailers in London

Going even further east, all the way to Harrods, will really mess up my itinerary for the day. I have a couple of other people to take into account, and they will probably view buying port as a waste of time ;-). Are you sure about your geography of London? Both BBR and Harrods are to the west of t...

Re: Good port retailers in London

Thanks for the info! I have used F&R before, but that takes a bit more preparation (and a UK shipping address to have everything delivered prior to my arrival). This trip will be a quick hit-and-run - arriving at noon and returning home in the evening. So I was just wondering whether there are s...

Good port retailers in London

I'll be in London next Saturday, by car. Good opportunity to stock up on some ports which are hard to find on this side of the channel. I'm primarily looking for (reasonobly priced) Niepoort 2007 (full case), '83, '80, '77, '75 and '70 (1 to 5 bottles each depending on the vintage). I'm also interes...

Re: Drop stop discs

I doubt that.. As far as I know patent infringement can also be a result of the /use/ of a product. So my guess would be that importing 3000 of these imitation drop-stops from China into into a country where the Drop-Stop patent is active is a clear case of patent infringement, even if you are not t...

Re: Drop stop discs

Drop Stop is patented. They can be ordered in bulk, either with custom print (single sided) or unbranded, but the price is still in the order of EUR 0.50 - EUR 1/piece. There are imitations. However, all are patent infringements. There is a dutch company, specialized in plastic printing, who are sel...

Any cork-leakage on the Niepoort '97s? too hot in NY to take delivery but the warehouse manager says everything looks clean. Sounds good! I bought a case myself a couple of weeks ago and picked it up at the retailer. We had to go through multiple cases out of his cellar to get enough clean bottles....

Cellardine.co.uk?

Hey folks, Has anyone ever done business with cellardine.co.uk? I'm still waiting on an order placed one month ago, nothing so far. Two weeks ago they claimed the parcel was "held up in customs", which of course is strange, as customs has nothing to do with parcels within the EU. Is this a...

Re: None of My Greek friends have "Liked" port posts on Face

There are some fortified reds in Greece, primarily made from Mavrodaphne. The best known example is Mavrodaphne of Patras. The wine has an oxidative style which is a result of vinification at high temperatures and aging in a solara-style system. Usually pretty wood dominated. I find them to be prett...

Hello from the other side of the channel

I'm located in the Netherlands and have been collecting (and drinking) port for a few years. Not just port by the way, but it is the majority of the collect...
