Re: Cellar Defenders

At the risk of losing the meagre supply chain available to me, I have been trying numerous 10 year old tawnies as well. The Taylor's, the Dow's are both a little middle of the road for my liking. On a whim, I decided to try the own brands from a number of supermarkets - lower price points usually me...

Re: 1916

I hadn't in fact thought of that. I will suggest it and let you know if he is interested. I fully expect them only to be fit to pour on my chips. For anyone feeling disgruntled over any comments on the grim and frozen north, I should point out that all of my family come from and all live (with the e...

1916

Been a while since I was around due to personal circumstance but hey ho. My cousin has, amongst many others, a pair of 1916 VPs. Labels have been missing many years but they have been laid down along with the others in a constant temperature so they shouldn't be awfully bad. He doesn't know if they ...

Re: Latest buy

I'm in the market for every day drinkers of the bargain types we have seen in this thread and some "thoroughly good enough" VPs. Doesn't seem that there's many offers around on either? If anyone has any VPs that are good and sound but simply not "good enough" for their cellars......

Re: Recommendation for port purchase in/for New York

Well I bought and forgot to report back... Gave him a decent spread including a 10, 20 and 30yo tawny (different houses), an LBV and a couple of vintages. the vintage were younger than I wanted to get and I left strict instructions that they must be left untouched until mature in X years time. Appar...

Re: Latest buy

In preparation for Christmas, there was an accidental acquisition of some Dow's Trademark (some=36 bottles)
Christmas Day produced an "ooh" with a Morgan 66

Any offers around in the area? Christmas caused a bit of a hit on the stocks

Can you PM me some prices / options please? @Andy - he's in New Jersey. total wines have a few that look drinkable inc some names I know plus one that might go down well as a little in joke. Thanks for the responses guys, feeling that I may now be able to g...

Recommendation for port purchase in/for New York

Hi All, Those who were at the offline this time last year met my brother who maligns that lack of port available at sensible prices in the US of A. He's not had any since that tasting barring a dozen half bottles of Offley 1970 (which were a great price and remain one of our faves). I'd like to get ...

Re: Latest buy

Hoping that the news about bans on discounted wines won't affect our group forays when prices become keen ;-) This came up in conversation the other day and I think we worked out that about the lowest price we would be able to see if minimum alcohol pricing came into force in England would be about...

Well the Times said today that the discounting of wines will be stopped. Hopeful that 25% off VP is not included in that :-)

Re: Just how much is enough

While I don't have the same "six offences" as Tom, I do take a structured approach to the bottles I take out of stock for drinking in a year. So do I. Every time I feel the urge to open a bottle of Port I interrogate myself with the same zeal and vigour as a US marine water-boarding a ter...

Re: Selling?

Price, length of tenure, storage conditions with you and previous owners, sourced from and location would be handy.

A 1963 bottle stored in the airing cupboard for 30 years is worth about a pound.

Jubilee celebrations

To celebrate the 60 years of her reign, I shall be toasting with an already decanted bottle of 1970 Noval tonight.

What is anyone else sampling this weekend - either for the Jubilee, just because, or even for a different celebration.

Currently looking to buy some Offley 70 - would happily share a case with someone. Hi Phil, If the price is right, I volunteer for that...not seen any in a while - used to buy any I could find. Last saw 10 halves in California at about $20 a piece and my brother bought the lot. Apparently they were...
