True. But that was completely mature as well (I'd say even more so than the Niepoort), so I see no need to adjust my point.

Stevie, can you bring me one on Saturday? I wouldn't know any other store than Ton Overmars that carries it.

Re: A pecking order has been established

Well, excellent. A pecking order has been established. My introduction thread has sixteen replies, not including this one . The introduction thread used by everybody else ( Well, here we are ), has a mere fourteen. Ha! That's why I'm not replying to this post. I will ignore it. Oh no, that's anothe...

Why did you post this in a seperate thread? There is absolutely no need.

And, hi. It's been a long time.

I will proceed with the TN thingy tomorrow. It's a lot of fun reading through all these old TN's of ports, some of which I didn't even remember having tasted. Now I have to go and drink Portonics and beers together with Stevie and LadyR. That's not to be understated either.

1977 Croft

Tasted around Christmas 2004: Somewhat dark core with still a bit of red in it, gradually moving to orange/brown at the rim. It smells very old: lots of leather, some roasted coffee, some green (herbal) notes. Don't get much fruit on the nose. Again old tones in the taste: leather, tobacco, coffee. ...

1985 Osborne

Tasted around Christmas 2004: Pretty light ruby coloured with some brown bricking. Going to orange/pink at the rim. A strikingly dry nose, with some alcohol, leather, dried black currant, tobacco. Still enough fruit in the taste, strawberries and some blackberries. Light bodied. Quite hot on the mid...

1955 Sandeman

Tasted November 2004, TN by LadyR: Not decanted. We used our port tong for the very first time and we even succeeded. Rusty brown colour. A bit too medical on the nose, but besides that it shows lovely dried fruit and earthy tones. This port is elegant, multi-layered and very smooth, due to satin ta...

Casa Ferreirinha Barca Velha 1985

Another one LadyR wrote up: Ruby to slightly orange colour, giving away its age a bit. Typical Portugese nose, but with the elegancy of a great Burgandy. A very fresh wine, with eucalyptus, anise, rustic, dried cherries & black berries, marzipan and almost liquourice tones. Firm tannins, though ...

A TN by LadyR from an offline we had with tsunami (and others) in Switzerland, November 2004:
Rustic brown colour, relatively young and closed port. Bit alcoholic, dried red fruit & relatively sweet, silty, leather and bitter tones. Great port, but did not give its full potential.

1975 Taylor

Tasted September 2004, TN by LadyR: Since Ronnie and Stevie have 'some' connection to the year 1975, we come across many surprises... 1 hour decanted. Light, clear ruby colour with brown rim. After you get used to the intense aromas of alcohol, it strongly smells like mosquito repellent and maybe so...

1983 Niepoort

Tasted September 2004, TN by LadyR: We decanted this wine 2 hours in advance. The colour is one of an aged/matured vintage port: light red hart with a pink overall sparkle. As Niepoort ports can have an interesting iodine nose, this '83 is a little too alcoholic (this will fade away with time). Its ...

I'm working on a new site with more articles and scores. Those will be in English for the best part (because there aren't much Dutch articles on Portuguese wine). Still thinking whether we should translate the rest in English to in order to create a seperate English site. Maybe, if I have some spare...

I am still hoping we'll be there in July, but it's not a sure thing we'll make it. It depends on whether LadyR can do a course there for which she subscribed. Course is full, she's on a waiting list, and we'll probably only know on short notice. I'll keep you guys posted!

1987 Taylor's Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port

Tasted September 2004: [qoute]very deep colour, with an almost black centre. Dominant smell of flowers, with an addition of something meaty. Also some cherries and good freshness. Still a bit closed. Then the taste: Smack! A very powerful fruitbomb, packed with tannins. Beatifully layered with licor...

1987 Ferreira

Tasted September 2004: Light and bright in colour, clearly showing its age. A polite smell of sweet prunes, wet tobacco and some glue (not off putting though). It tastes fairly light bodied and mature. Very sweet with a slight hot touch. Candied sugar, some dried fruit, hardly any tannins left. In t...

1985 Kopke Sao Luiz

Tasted July 2004, first note by LadyR and second by me: This bottle started to leak as a result of a dried out cork, so it had to opened. We drunk it immediately after we decanted the bottle, so the alcohol was blowing right in you face (it faded away after a while). Besides that, it smelled like we...

1987 Croft Roeda

Tasted August 2004: Decanted (2,5 hours before first sip), lots of sediment present. Rather light in colour, brownish, with light red centre. Doesn't give much on the nose, predomintantly leather and a tad alcoholic. Again lots of leather in the taste, some cherry chocolates and a bit of pepper. Sta...

A note that LadyR made in April 2004 (during a offline with tsunami) hmm, what to say about such a beautifull glass/bottle of port? Red brown core with brown/orange rim. It smells perfectly balanced and harmonised: all components fit together into a single enjoyment. Ripe cherries, black berries, so...

1977 Gould Campbell

Tasted April 2004 with tsunami: Young, closed, a powerhouse, and completely worth its high WS rating. We tried it again on day 2 and right now I am sipping the last remains. and some notes on that sipping... I am sipping on the last remains of the Gould Campbell as I type, and it is still lovely.
