Re: Vintage Port quantities produced each year from 1960's until today?

I believe that the IVDP keeps records of the volume of port sold by category, but doesn't differentiate vintage port from any other type of premium port category. I think the IVDP approves a set quantity of VP for each shipper in each year that sales are presented for approval. However, that doesn'...

Re: Possible fake 1927 VP in Belgium auction this weekend

I think the fact that it clearly says "1927 Tawny" on the capsule tells us that this is not VP, so no mystery there. I agree with Phil that the intricate nature of the capsule is very unusual in a fake. The label does look suspect, but there are plenty of bottles around with facsimile labels made an...

Are you suggesting that people in the port trade might embellish stories a little to add to the mystique of their products?

Surely not

Re: Fonseca Choco 30 years old?

A very rare find. As far as I a aware Fonseca have not made a 30 year tawny since losing a significant part of their cellared Ports when part of the lodge collapsed in 2001. Are you talking about the landslide from the neighbor? If so, That damage took out mostly lower end ruby stocks and very litt...

2017 Harvest Report from Paul Symington

Douro Harvest Report 2017 The Earliest Vintage [/b] This has been a very dry and warm year in the Douro. From December 2016 onwards, every month had substantially below average rainfall apart from a 30-mm downpour and some localised hail on the afternoon of 6th July. This rain increased the year’s ...

Perhaps we are aiming too low in this world of technological advancement?

Could a device be developed that could "see" inside an unopened OWC to report back on the levels of each of the dozen bottles regardless of the opacity of the glass?

Re: 4 Bottles Of Old Port For Sale

Hello, Unfortunately the bottles in the first three pictures are almost worthless - perhaps £30 for all three on a good day at auction. The bottle in the fourth picture is not Port and I have no idea of its quality or value. I would suggest you either drink them or give them to a friend who might ap...

Interesting.

I have a batch of "believed Fonseca 1966" that have been reliably corked each time I have pulled the trigger. I will re-cork the remaining bottles and report back in 2037 :D

Re: Handwriting questions

“C on D 2½%”, being a discount for cash, would be consistent with then standard practice. The "or" in front of 2½% is the clearest part of the note, so your suggestion doesn't make sense. Perhaps "Cash for 2½%"? Also, do the pencil notes before the price of each bottle say "paid"? If so the red tic...

Re: ST MICHAEL 1987 LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORT

Hi,

I assume "St Michael" is the old brand name used by Marks & Spencer?

I'm sorry to say it isn't worth much at all - perhaps a tenner - and is likely to be past its best. It will probably still drink ok so I would suggest you open it with some friends.

Re: Port for sale

Billy,

Are you sure you are describing these correctly?

You mention a "minuscule leak" and then say the bottles are 3/4 full. Those two descriptions seem incompatible.

Would you be able to post some pictures showing the fill level of the bottles?
