Re: New to Port - Got Carried Away at Auction

Hi, and welcome to the forum. It's not often that we have people who describe themselves as "new to port" and who have also thrown themselves headlong down the slippery slope before getting here  All is not lost - you have done nothing wrong and the bottles you have bought are all likely to tur...

Re: Port 1970

Dow 1970 is fabulous Port.

I strongly recommend continuing to slowly drink your way through the case with your father. It will last two decades or more if is has been properly stored.

Re: Tue 13th Nov - An Emergency in London!

Would seven bottles between five be too much for a school night? Should the magnum be saved for another day? Taking your point on numbers I will bring just one bottle if that helps. Both of these reductions seem to have been implemented (which is fine), but only one is reflected on the placemats. T...

The food order can be downloaded from the first port. Please check.

A "Simon P." existed in a previous order so I have left those choices in. If not the same Simon P or different choices wanted please say here.

Re: Tue 13th Nov - An Emergency in London!

Answering the request for volunteers. New to TPF and would very much like to attend. Can bring two bottles ..one for enjoyment (hopefully) and one to confuse (well it does me). If two bottles creates an issue for the placemat software or methodology then will restrict myself to just the one...... Y...

Re: 2016 Declarations

Semantics. Yes it’s a VP, so it has to follow those rules. To be called a “Quinta...” it has to adhere to more rules. For example, Quinta do Noval VP and Noval Silval VP can be declared in the same year. One is technically a VP from a single Quinta and one isn’t. They adhere to similar but also dif...

Re: 2016 Declarations

To be accurate, most VP's don't come from just one Quinta. Even "SQVP's", by law, can have a small amount from other Quinta's and still be called a SQVP. Are there rules for SQVP? I thought that SQVP is not at all regulated by the law nor IVDP? Legally it is a Vintage Port, everything else is just ...

May I invite a guest, Dave A., who is the husband of a friend of the wife? And I’ll bring a magnum.
Of course Dave A. is welcome.

First post update to add Gerwin to the reserve list and re-confirm interest from Tom and Glenn. I am not updating the list of ports as their availability will very much depend on who the 14 brave survivors are when we get to 2051. Perhaps those who have promised bottles could consider bequeathing th...

I saw a bottle of this for sale in John Lewis on Saturday. It came in a polished copper wire bottle cradle shaped like a reindeer. I thought it was rather cute; my better half thought it tacky. I was not allowed to buy it.
I agree with your better half.

Re: Brooks Royal Coronation Vintage Port 1878

bottled after the Selo came to exist based on bottle, without Selo is a major red flag. How do you know when it was bottled? Could have been in 1901, 1910, 1936 or 1952. The first two would definitely not have a Selo. Some googling of London company archives might turn up something about the wine m...

Re: 1991 Morgan

Just reread this tasting note. I fear the Morgan 91 is the definition of a port drunk to young. As a group we must have had over a Pipe at one point, I fear we don’t have much left! That is simply following the tradition of how clubs and other institutions would drink their Vintage Port. Julian's b...

Very nice indeed. Surprisingly young and un-evolved from a half bottle. A massive fruit bomb with no adolescent harshness. Lovely port.

AHB commented that JDAW would have loved this. He wasn't wrong, but neither or us could bring ourselves to save some to test that theory.
