Re: Vintage port terrible teens?

When the online port community got together nearly 14 years ago now, people were drinking quite a lot of Vesuvio, despite the fact that the oldest bottles were only 16 years old then. '85s were frequently drunk, despite being only 20 and there was a lot of discussion about the 94s - then a mere 11 y...

Level detector?

This evening, in a bar, having a bite to eat, the telly was showing Spencer Kelly with his BBC Click program from the CES where he was very rapidly going through a range of new gadgets. The sound was turned down. Then I saw him with a row of plastic tumblers with varying levels of water in them that...

Re: Pointless Statistics

For the eighth year in a row I consumed exactly 48 bottles of vintage port at home last year, with an average age of 43.8 years compared to 44.1 years in 2017 I currently have 874 different ports, of which 616 are vintage. Average age of my VP as of Jan 1st was 32 years, ten months and 24 days Colle...

Re: Are Vintage Port prices increasing

The amount of vintage port sold during the summer and autumn of 2017 was very low and prices ran hot due to low supply levels.

That changed in December (after Decanter would have gone press) and successive large offerings saw the last sales turn into a turkey shoot for bargain hunters..

Four youngest bottles decanted just now at home - all looking good Notable are the levels of the stash I'm bringing - none are below BN and even the 1910 has an IN level.. All original signups appear to be on parade, the Boot and Flogger seem to be in control - I'm about to head off.. If anyone need...

I can only print A4 - if you can print A3 that would be really helpful
Please confirm good.

Re: Tue Dec 11th 2018 - An Offley vertical

- As things stand, I shall be bringing all the bottles save the '70 (Ian) and possibly the '62 (Tony will bring the '62 if he gets past the wait list) - Eight bottles are already there - needless to say the lift at Borough station chose that day to be kaput - so I had to lug them up the stairs.. - I...

Re: Tue Dec 11th 2018 - An Offley vertical

OK costs..

16 vintages of Offley, ranging from 1924 to 1985, split 13 ways, and not including food or tip, works out at a modest £129 pp

Possible add-ons:

Offley 1910 - adds £15 pp

Offley 1975 - adds £3 pp

I'm still in, subject to final confirmation of the cost of attending. Please advise when you can.
Have only one question mark left on that front, but as of now it's looking like an 'Offley' good value event!

Re: Tue Dec 11th 2018 - An Offley vertical

OK - a question:

Do we go for an eighteen bottle lineup and include '94 and '00 - or go for a sixteen bottle event leaving them out?

I have plans to travel down with the oldest bottles some time next week - anyone fancy an informal meet to make better use of the journey..?

Re: New to Port - Got Carried Away at Auction

Be aware - be very aware - that if you put two bottles together in a darkened room, you will suddenly find there are lots of bottles and your bank account is mysteriously empty.. The first time I went to a wine auction I came home with nothing. The second time I came back with seven bottles and the ...
