Tom — trains permitting, I hope to be at the B&F around 16.30 and will help to get the room ready and the wines poured.
Excellent - thanks!

Tom - are you OK printing A3? If not, let me know and I'll sort.
I can only print A4 - if you can print A3 that would be really helpful
Please confirm good.
Looks good thanks Julian

Re: Tue Dec 11th 2018 - An Offley vertical

- As things stand, I shall be bringing all the bottles save the '70 (Ian) and possibly the '62 (Tony will bring the '62 if he gets past the wait list) - Eight bottles are already there - needless to say the lift at Borough station chose that day to be kaput - so I had to lug them up the stairs.. - I...

Re: Tue Dec 11th 2018 - An Offley vertical

OK costs..

16 vintages of Offley, ranging from 1924 to 1985, split 13 ways, and not including food or tip, works out at a modest £129 pp

Possible add-ons:

Offley 1910 - adds £15 pp

Offley 1975 - adds £3 pp

Re: Tue Dec 11th 2018 - An Offley vertical

I'm still in, subject to final confirmation of the cost of attending. Please advise when you can.
Have only one question mark left on that front, but as of now it's looking like an 'Offley' good value event!

Re: Tue Dec 11th 2018 - An Offley vertical

OK - a question:

Do we go for an eighteen bottle lineup and include '94 and '00 - or go for a sixteen bottle event leaving them out?

I have plans to travel down with the oldest bottles some time next week - anyone fancy an informal meet to make better use of the journey..?

Re: New to Port - Got Carried Away at Auction

Be aware - be very aware - that if you put two bottles together in a darkened room, you will suddenly find there are lots of bottles and your bank account is mysteriously empty.. The first time I went to a wine auction I came home with nothing. The second time I came back with seven bottles and the ...

Dont do this tasting without Vallegre Vintage Port 2011. Fantastic and the biggest surprise of 2011
Or Crasto or Burmester - the latter was quite a surprise also..

Re: Fitting in more bottles..

Imagine if the entire wine industry moved to square or rectangular bottles instead If port was bottled in square bottles with rounded corners - similar to Jack Daniels bottles - they could be racked with over 50% better space efficiency. Unfortunately it would be a different story when bin storing,...

Trafalgar Day 2018 My assessment of the 2016 port vintage, its inclusion in my rolling evaluation of the sixty most recent vintages, and my updated full vintage rankings. Before describing how I arrived at my assessment of this vintage, it is perhaps worth noting three characteristics of the 2016 v...

I havn't been able to locate any Cruz vintage 1992. I know it has been made.
Visiting the Cruz cellars a couple of years back, Axel P and I found some some neglected pallet cages full of odd Cruz VP's from that period - mostly with decaying labels and adorned with odd cigarette butts..

Is OBV a possibility?
If it is port then that would fit, but we still have the problem with the shape of the bottle glass. I wonder if our Scandinavian friends can input on this, as the shape bears no resemblance to anything I've seen used in either UK or Portuguese bottlings..

Re: Wine Auctioneer

But since I can clearly see a horizontal line coming off of the vertical, PORT seems more likely than 1910 to me. Bear in mind that this is a wax embossing rather than a cork branding, so the distortions seen on brands will not occur here. We can clearly see the character 0 or O and also the kernin...

Fitting in more bottles..

Of all the various wine storage systems, the traditional wood and metal racks are as space efficient as any other, barring large bins. And although always quoted in mm, the dimensions usually translate back to imperial measures, the pitch of racks of standard bottles being either 3 13/16" (96.8mm) o...
