Axel - please do let us know about the tasting, especially comparison of '71 vs latest if you're allowed publicly.
(wish I could have joined you - but you know that! Hope everything shows well)

Re: Port To Keep...

Hi Gavin and welcome to :tpf: a budget of £50. I'm happy to go a little over this but that's roughly the price I'm aiming at. So my questions are: 1) Is it even possible / worth picking up a bottle at that price to be drunk 18-21 years later? Most definitely possible to obtain bottles at around that...

Re: Apostrophe crimes

Mt. Rainier is 14,411. :-P I've skied at 12,000' in Colorado (Crested Butte). Yeah, the last couple thousand feet make a big difference. Most of the resort is between 9000' and 10,500', but if you go up top and take a couple of those black runs you'll be gasping for breath in no time. That's nothin...

2011 Ferreira LBV

A glass of young LBV from a restaurant; how the long the bottle had been opened unknown.
Young, dark and austere, strong tannins and dark black fruit, good length, quite dry.

1984 Kopke Colheita

Bottled 2016. Red/Brown perhaps 40% opaque; notes of toffee, Brazil nut and slight orange, superbly balanced acidity and delicious. Unexpected hint of coffee on the finish.

A very enjoyable and interesting evening - many thanks to Tony for organising and his generosity in supplying the Nacional for inclusion, and the tawnies to finish the evening very pleasantly. Most ports showed well, some with some surprising similarities, and several with significant variation thro...

Re: Thu 08 Jun - 67@50 2017

A small aside, for anyone considering holding an election sweepstake in the future. Upon reflection, I have realised that the question I posed was potentially ambiguous. For those people who guessed positive numbers, were they guessing how many seats above the 325 seat threshold the Conservatives w...

Could not deliver the Ck67 and Mz67 yesterday to The B&F due to police checking for evidence after the terrorist attack.
Is there any reason to suspect that we might not be able to access the B&F on Thursday evening?

Re: NV Grahams 30yr Tawny

Interestingly (to me, at least), 48hrs later this seems quite different; still a very complex nose, but the taste now seems more caramel-based, then a hit of well balanced acidity but no oranges any more, medium to long after-taste. Softer and less fresh now. Still vg, but substantially different - ...

NV Grahams 30yr Tawny

Bottled 2015, lovely smooth and well balanced. Hugely complex nose, and very very long finish; full complex flavour, hints of honey, sultanas and orange peel.

1995 Fonseca Guimaraens (half)

Still young, lots of fruit, hint of blueberries and red cherry. Now maturing quite quickly in the halves, though still young for my taste.

Earlier in the week, a half-bottle of Fonseca Guimaerans 1995. Good, but still young for my taste, though now maturing quite quickly (in halves, at least). Tonight, a Graham's 30yr tawny opened; will post TNs.

9/10 for me. Did not know that you add 's to plural nouns that do not end in s (men's team). Did get Jesus' crash helmet, but only because it looked correct and not because I knew the rule. Going by modern standards it should have been Jesus's crash helmet. Meh. 9/10 also. I was happy enough with J...

Re: The Port Forum Babies and their Vintages

Given the tasting notes (alas I am not a recipient of tasting samples, and with the lack of a BFT this year cannot therefore comment directly), I would have gone for the Vesuvio from 2015 for this purpose, given the combination of tasting note comments and presentation packaging.

Sainsbury have their "buy 6 get 25% off" sale going again. Particular port deals I spotted were Sainsbury Taste The Difference Vintage Port 2003 (SFE) @ £20 discounted to £15 if you buy a mixed six and Graham Crusted bottled 2011 already discounted down to £15 so roughly £13 per bottle in a mixed s...
