Re: Sandeman 1942 - another question...

Sounds like an excellent idea for a tasting to me; the Sandeman '42 is particularly unusual and interesting.

Re: Warre 1963 Question

No matching image in the VPID I'm afraid - I don't know.
Does the bottle have any other marks or embossing on the bottle?

Completely agree with Derek's advice above. Keep it well, and you have fabulous drinking for the next decade or two.

I’ve never seen that bottle used prior to late 1960’s.

The old VV has been on my bucket list for a long time; I hope to try it one day - though that might just have become somewhat less likely!

Looks like an excellent menu, as well as the wine, finishing off with one of my favourite ports. My invite must have been lost in the post ;)

Re: Fitting in more bottles..

Hexagons, we want hexagons! Hexagonal bottles would also tessellate perfectly (albeit not along the edges), while also not allowing an entire row or stack to slide, as well as fitting better within the hand for pouring. But no, we don't want really want hexagonal or square bottles; also presumably t...

Please could somebody check the placemats carefully, ideally today. Thank you.
Provided details in first post are all up to date, everything looks correct on the placemats to me.

Just missing an order (and/or default order) for Wolfgang (S).

Re: Cockburn Vertical, Tue 2nd Oct 2018

I thought one of the points of the default food thread was that the default order was taken as the order unless the individual actively and explicitly specifies something different? Kind of defeats the purpose if everyone needs to restate their default order every time does it not? Agreed, though s...

Do we have any volunteers who could assist with setting up, decanting and pre-pouring on the day please? I am not yet sure whether or not work commitments will allow me to be there ahead of the start time so if there is someone willing and able to take charge on the day of the tasting it would be m...

Re: Wine Auctioneer

Absolutely we like bottles like this, especially with decent fill levels, cork not damaged or raised, and a good colour to the wine.
Can we get a couple of higher resolution images to look at more closely (perhaps by PM, or links by PM, as appropriate)?

1960 Warre

Opened as a treat at home. Full, woody and heavy fruit on the initial taste, yet a surprisingly light and delicate finish; much more balanced once given 4h+ post-decant. This bottle not quite as good as previous, particularly on the second day when the wine was still good but the finish was less rou...

I suggest /ShapesInTitles false def as the perfect solution. Or just using a different shape from the options available; I think gman was saying h...

Re: 1993 - A hunt

Vintage port from 1993 is essentially a non-starter, as Tom describes. I would suggest either looking at VP from 1991 bottled in 1993, or alternatively you could look for Colheita (essentially vintage tawny port) from that year, such as the Kopke 1993 Colheita.
