Re: Niepoort Charme

Great wine! I agree with Andy that these need time. Another unusual thing is that it shows better if tasted after more extracted, tannic wines. It was Dirk Niepoort that showed us this. If you first taste Niepoort Batuta (a more Bordeaux-like wine) and then taste Charme, the Charme is ethereal! This...

2011 Noval Nacional

I saw it offered for £319 recently, but all available bottles were gone in a few hours.

What else do VP drinkers put in their cellar?

Port is 45% of my cellar. 39% is from California. The remainder is almost all French. My cellar contains approx. 2000 bottles. One can never have too much Port!

Porto in Feb

Just FYI, the last time I met Pedro he had moved to the Pousada in Porto - the Palácio do Freixo. This is run by the Pestana group. He is occasionally back at the Hotel Pestana, but only to fill in.

Of all the restaurants, O Paparico is my favorite. It's a must go for me.

Time for a TN sort?

Absolutely nothing. I think there is a certain stylish decadence to opening a bottle of Fonseca 1970 once a month for the last 6 months. I doff my hat in admiration (and a little envy). Same here. I LOVE 1970 Fonseca! I had decided to buy enough 1994 Vesuvio to open a bottle a month for the rest if...

Upcoming Auction @ Spectrum/Vanquish

Right! Who knows what a 1966 DrRC R-C really tastes like? And from various unknown storage situations... only a few people can say. How about 1966 Graham's VP?... Even I have the experience to make an educated call from various bottlers.

Upcoming Auction @ Spectrum/Vanquish

I bought some Port from Spectrum last year. The payment and pick up of the wines was difficult to say the least. I've bought wine at auction in the middle of Wales and imported it to the US and that was much less painful than this auction house... that is in my own state! The good news is that the w...

I don't remember who brought the bottle - it might have been David Spriggs
It wasn't me who brought it! I brought :

1966 Taylor VP
1994 Vesuvio VP
2003 Casa de Casal de Loivos
2004 Quinta do Crasto "Vinha da Ponte"

I believe the guy who brought it lived in Florida.

Re: 1977 Taylor

Interesting. I think that most of mine are showingjust a bit younger...showing best the next day. But there is considerable bottle variation... and the leakers don't help. The last one I opened was by far the youngest I have tasted. I selected it out because it had a low fill. I open it - only to re...

Re: Latest buy

Hi guys.... my first post here (this is David Spriggs for those that know me.... and those that don't): Bonham's today for me as well, 1966 Graham (9) - 3 very top, 1 top with signs of seepage; labelled (I'm splitting this with Andy) 1985 Graham's (12) - owc I put in many bids at the Straker Chadwic...
