Re: Evening all
In the UK, according to the weights and measures law, Port and other fortified wines are served in 50ml measures or multiples of 50ml. The nearest I can find is the The Weights and Measures (Intoxicating Liquor) Order 1988 , of which the nearest I can find is 5. (1) Subject to paragraph (2) of this...

Re: Evening all
I suspect that most people (myself included) would not appreciate enough the difference between a Garrafeira and a standard colheita to make it worth offering one on your list. Perhaps better to offer an extremely young vintage port or maybe even to just shorten the list slightly. Fair enough. I wi...

Re: Gin reviews
Yes, thanks for posting that. I must try to find some of the Tanqueray Rangpur as I’m quite partial to having some strong lime in my Gin and Tonic. Incidentally, have you found a solution to the tonic problem? I met someone recently who worked for a premium soft-drink company (I think it may have b...

Re: Evening all
I’ve only had the Ramos Pinto ten-year-old, which has a slightly bizarre (at least for Port) pink colour but it otherwise a pleasant enough tawny. Make sure to try them at a variety of temperatures, from cellar to slightly chilled, as some tawnies seem to benefit from being a bit colder. I think it...

Re: Cognac
If any of you are lucky enough get your hands on some try the Chateau de Beaulon Extra Rare.
It is an ancient house from Cognac that has some of the oldest eaux de vie in France and this one has a fantastic percentage of pre phylloxera eaux de vie.

I LOVE Gin. Some of the Gins we stock in our Bar Beefeater - Our house gin. Great for cocktails such as slings. Perfect with tonic. Bombay Sapphire - Always loses out to beefeater on blind tastings due to its dependency on all those botanicals but reasonable in a Martini. It gets lost easily in Giml...

Evening all
Good evening all, I came on here because I know precious little about Port (other than the fact it goes down mighty well). I'm a Bar Manager of a new bar in Docklands, London and have actually come on board to get an idea of what Ports I should be stocking for the restaurant (we have yet to hire a s...
