Re: 1942 Graham

G42. Light strawberry with some fine sediment in the glass. Nose is slightly sour but otherwise smells like an old Port. The palate is soft, smooth, and very pleasant, but initially has a faint metallic note. That metallic note disappeared over time - it might have just needed some air. Still some s...

Re: 1945 Graham

G45. Light strawberry with some red tones. Very clean/clear in the glass. Nose of faint Christmas spices, and... well, "old Port." Beautiful mouthfeel, smooth and almost creamy with a subtle richness to the fully mature red fruits. Only eclipsed by the 1948. 96 points.

Re: 1948 Graham

G48. Light strawberry color, but looks a bit thin. There's a slight caramel note on the nose - possibly a sign of some very faint oxidation? - along with layers of soft, dried red fruits. Those fruits are also found on the palate along with some faint vanilla and some citrus. There are undertones of...

Re: 1955 Graham

G55. Light red and ruby. Faint stinkiness on the nose with layers of dried red fruits. It still has some faint tannins to round out a pleasant palate that shows baked pie - apple and blackberry together? 93 points.

Re: 1960 Graham

G60. Light garnet. There's a darkness to the color tone, but it is still light. Perhaps thin is a better word? It smells like a nice old Port, but without any real identifying characteristics. Some faint fruit on the palate, but mostly just pleasantly sweet and nice to drink. There might be a few ba...

Re: 1963 Graham

G63. Light strawberry color with some caramel tones. Looks a bit off. Some fruit on the nose and decent "body", but hints of that caramel color lie in the background if you look for them. It's probably slightly oxidized, but it doesn't really stand out as flawed. Even without the slight hi...

Re: 1966 Graham

G66. Very light garnet. Nose starts out with faint esteva, them proceeds to ripe red fruit and finally some faint stone fruits. Mature fruits in the mouth with some tannins and balanced acidity. Relatively full body considering its age. This is a rock star! 95 points.

Re: 1970 Graham

G70. Very light garnet, some tawny notes. That can't be right. 1st red flag. Nose is faintly stinky but there is decent fruit behind it. 2nd red flag. But... the palate is gorgeous and full of layers of ripe red and purple fruits along with some faint baking spices. It drinks very nicely, but is cle...

Re: 1975 Graham

G75. I have limited experience with the 1975 vintage as a whole and have not heard good things about it, so was not expecting much. Expectations greatly exceeded. Light garnet color with pink overtones. Nose of cherry cough syrup but without the medicinal quality. Sweet, light, and pleasant in the m...

G77. Med light ruby in color. Look very pretty in the glass. Nose is reticent with only a little soft red fruit discernable. Palate is pleasing, but also not very complex. Tannins are relatively faint. 93 points.

Re: 1980 Graham

G80. Medium garnet, possibly medium dark garnet. Raspberry on the nose. Sweet raspberry on the palate, but not all that much else. Still some tannins, so might add some depth over the next 5 years. 92 points.

Re: 1983 Graham

G83. Dark red and garnet. Opaque in the center. Clean and clear raspberry and blackberry on the nose. Those carry to the palate, which also adds chocolate and mulberry. Still very youthful. I suspect these will rise above the 1985 in the future, though they've never been far behind for me. At this t...

Re: 1985 Graham

G85. Medium to medium light red with garnet overtones - seems lighter than it should be. Slightly sour nose that displays predominantly red fruit. Luckily it tastes better than it looks and smells, but this still does not seem like a proper bottle. Smooth, ripe red fruit backed up by ripe purple fru...

Re: 1991 Graham

G91. Medium red with some garnet tones. The nose is mostly sweet strawberry with some rich grape. The palate is smooth and rich, though somewhat simple. Some chocolate and good tannins, but could use a little more acidity to get into better balance. 92 points.

Re: 1994 Graham

G94. Medium dark garnet. Nicely complex nose combining red and purple fruits with hints of green that isn't quite mint but comes from that direction. Big, fruity palate full of ripe purple berries and some black cherry. Possibly a hint of chocolate. Only just barely starting to enter maturity at 30 ...

Re: 2000 Graham

G00. Medium dark red and garnet. Nose seems reticent. Fruity palate but seems somewhat simple; might still be closed down? Good tannins for a long life. Check back in 5 years to see if it has opened up. 92 points.

Re: 2003 Graham

G03. Medium dark red with some garnet. Good fruit on the nose, but difficult to separate. Rich and full in the mouth with strong tannins and good fruit. Might still be coming out of a teenage funk, but even so has nice balance. Needs another 10 years to soar. 95 points.

Re: 2024: May 14 - Graham

I'm finally home and catching up on notes and records. This was a splendid evening! A vertical of Graham's Ports going all the way back to 1942?!? Fantastic. Thank you, Martin, for organizing and for coordinating the date so that it would work with my vacation schedule. I put my nickname at risk to ...

Re: Strawberry Fields Forever (1st July - Spot The Taylor Vertical)

I have in the past, when needing to splash decant multiple bottles, done so thusly: Port 1 -> decanter Port 2 -> Port 1 Port 3 -> Port 2 ... decanter -> Port N Obviously, as each bottle is emptied, it should be rinsed thoroughly of sediment before the next Port is decanted into it. Also, the use of ...

Re: Strawberry Fields Forever (1st July - Spot The Taylor Vertical)

I'll ask Seckford to choose 1 bottle each of the missing intervening vintages from my stocks with them 1960, 1975, 1980, 1983 and then for them to decide how many should be Taylor and how many should not be Taylor i.e 0-4 Taylor bottles. Then to remove all labels and capsules and simply label the b...

Re: Graham (or Malvedos) vertical, Tue 14 May 2024

I am happy to fork out for anyone else’s bottle of 85 Graham, if they have one to hand that they can bring along. I can bring one with me but I would have to know in the next 2 hours. Afte...
