That is why capsules came into being, to cover the cork and prevent various insects and rodents from attacking the corks. From what I understand now it's not the issue it used to be. I would again assume modern insecticides use has curtailed the issues and why many wines no longer use capsules.

I assume you're in the UK. If so your price is way high for that side of the pond. In the USA, this bottle stored as it was is probably worth around $150 max, in reality less. In the UK this would sell for less than that (in Pounds).

Actually I find Vargellas has what I call "Vargellas spirit". It's a fairly normal thing for Vargellas to have some alcohol that shows. No idea what causes it but it's been there until all but some more recent vintages.

From what I've read on other wine boards is Coravin works good until the bottle gets to about 2/3 to 1/2 full. Then the contents degrade quite quickly after that. So it works great for the first few pours.

I get two different views, when not logged in and when logged in.

1- When not logged in all is normal

2- This is what I get when I log in. Noticed the extra phpBB logo. That is not there when I am logged out.

The LB is a basic ruby Port and I'd assume so is the Graham's. Basically worthless from a money perspective. They probably would still drink sorta ok but considering these are around 40-50 years old and a basic Port to begin with don't expect much.

I've had some similar issues from dry wine corks from this era as well. So I don't think it's just a Vesuvio issue.
