Re: Mould under foil/on top of cork

Nothing to worry about. Just wipe off with a wet towel or cloth. You may need to wipe away any remaining bits on the very top of the bottle once the cork is removed.

Then enjoy knowing it’s a very well stored bottle!

Re: Is 30yo VP darker than it used to be?

Hi David, Many thanks for taking time out of your busy day and chiming in with your experience and expertise. We may be pros at drinking port but we’re just arm-chair winemakers, hah! I, and I’m quite positive all the others, look forward to learning more from you. I know this is a general question ...

Re: Is 30yo VP darker than it used to be?

A guess, to which I am probably wrong and if so please say so. I'd theorize it is due to block planting and the reduced use of the old field blends. The latter of which contained white grapes and all sorts of different types of red grapes not necessarily picked at their peak of ripeness. With block ...

From around that time period Sandeman has made huge improvements of their Ruby Ports. Just delicious!

It would have been bottled, or at least labeled, around the mid/late 1990’s.

The IVP became the IVDP in 2003.

Re: Thoughts on LBVs

Unfiltered LBV’s can be very delicious and can generally age nicely for a couple decades. I do find they tend to start losing their luster after about 20-25 yrs. They’re still good but they tend not to have the complexity to carry them into very old age. Of course there are exceptions, I’m speaking ...

Your welcome. Don’t be afraid to give it a good long decant and don’t serve too cold. Cellar temp is perfect. Please post your thoughts on it when you open yours. I’d love to read your thoughts on it.

2020 Quinta da Fonte Souto Taifa Branco

This is the debut vintage of this limited production "ultra" white from the property. Whereas the previous flagship white was about 75% Arinto and about 25% Verdelho, this wine is 100% Arinto aged for 11 months in 100% new Hungarian and French oak barrels and then aged for an additional tw...

Re: Vintage at last??

So.. not a great year by the sounds of it. Now the vintage is wrapped up, is it looking like a poor, bad or terrible one? From what I gather (no pun intended), grapes picked before the main rains that came were very good. What came after the rain, not so much. That generally means some producers wi...

Re: Bottles you never want to open

Anything is fair game to open, in the right setting. That said, the bit of really old wines I have are being opened pretty sparsely at this point as they are impossible to replace or the cost now is so high not worth it. But I plan to open most of mine before I die, I hope. My spouse loves wine but ...

Generally speaking. Once a cork starts to seep it means the cork isn’t sealing as good as intended. Those bottles go to my drink soon section. I’d suggest the same for you.

He’s 100% right. It most likely wasn’t released due to quality issues. If it had been a good year it would have been released. Even if it later turned out to be a good year, one would have seen the company open some for special tastings. To all our collective knowledge that never has happened. Telli...
