I'm not AHB, he may or may not differ, in my experiences a good bottle of it should hold until 2025 with ease.

Re: Kopke LBV 1981 in Magnum, collector's item?

It appears to be a Tappit Hen bottle. Perhaps all they had was mag labels and that is what they used. Or it's a smaller Tappit Hen look-a-like. If a true Tappit Hen then it's rare for LBV to be in that style bottle. That won't make it valuable except to someone who may want it just for the bottle. I...

Re: Fonseca Choco 30 years old?

It appears to be a regular 30 year old tawny, but with a fancy name that was quite common in years past. It was bottled in 1977 and if stored well should still drink ok, however that's a long time for something not intended to be aged so long in bottle. I wouldn't expect a blockbuster this many year...

Re: 1992 Quinta do Vesuvio

Glenn
IIRC, it was 1989-1991 that was kept at the Quinta. Hence the wax capsules as the corks were feared to have started drying out.

1992, like the previous few vintages, weren't made in huge quantities and all are not easily found today in secondary markets.

Re: 1977 Vintage Port

A good article, thanks for posting. The only scores which surprised me were the Niepoort '77 in standard bottle, and the Warre '77 in Tappit hen; the former I would rate much higher comparatively, and the latter I think is (generally) much better than the standard bottles. Interesting read, and lik...

Re: 1977 Vintage Port

Very nice read. Yes, sad that '77 hasn't generally turned out so well in time. Mostly due to poor corks and not the fault of the producers. A bit of a play on words regarding the Cockburn though. They didn't "...applied....too late...", they were ordered not to make it and did so anyways. They could...

Re: International Launch of Taylor’s Rare Aged Tawny Port

Regardless, they are brands that TFP owned, in whole or part, at one point and then dumped them some time after. Don't get me wrong, but it appears TFP doesn't want any more brands than their major ones (Taylor's, Fonseca, Croft). I will bet they sell off the name Krohn's in due course. Or just let ...

At least based on past history of the brands they've acquired and later done away with.
Such as?
Romariz, Morgan, Delaforce to name a quick few.

Re: International Launch of Taylor’s Rare Aged Tawny Port

The Krohn brand is not being killed off, as far as I am aware. In the UK, Krohn is represented by a separate agent to Taylor / Fonseca / Croft (which all come through Mentzendorff). The Krohn stocks of aged tawnies still in barrel are being commercialised under the Taylor name, but TFP have never m...

Interesting article and reply from Adrian. I know the discussion on irrigation is one which has been going for a while, but as far as I know the current rules forbid irrigation of port grapes once the vines have established themselves. But then Prats + Symington are a table wine producer and make o...

Re: Port Barrel Storage in Hot & Humid Weather

I assume you are filling it up with bottles bought from the store. If so, I would suggest leaving the empty barrel as a show piece and keeping the bottles in a wine cooler so they aren't damaged by prolong heat exposure. And it's not hard to say. Anything much above 25C is way too hot for prolonged ...

Re: Port Barrel Storage in Hot & Humid Weather

I don't think the humidity is your problem; I think the temperature is going to kill your Port with any kind of long-term aging. Port should be aged at 12-15 degrees (C) for best results. 25 is the upper end of safe for short-term storage (but not good for aging), while 35 will absolutely cook it a...
