I’ve no idea how I will negotiate permission but seems like the perfect night for a 70 VP from my perspective! Count me in.

Re: Tue 29th October 2019 - "69"
Phil. I love the theme. But it is half-term for us that week so I suspect my chances are very limited. Can I be first on the reserve list with a view to trying to arrange participation nearer the event if logistics allow?

I have created a default food order. But please may I have a JDAW Style Welsh rarebit to start in place of the truffle mac & cheese. Gammon main.
Thank you.

Re: The Standard Food Order
With attendance at a tasting now impending again, here is my default preference:
Starter: Truffle Mac & Cheese
Main: Gammon, egg, chips & black pudding
Note: this is from the menu B&F still describe as Spring (in September...)

Very much looking forward to this. 10th anniversary of me becoming part of TPF and meeting so many equally besotted port drinkers! At least I know who DRT is now when sending him cash!DRT wrote:Ben Read (BMHR) has now confirmed he will be taking vacant seat.

Re: Cockburn Vertical, Tue 2nd Oct 2018
I now have enough data to suggest that the cost will be in the region of £240 per person, excluding food. I will confirm the actual cost to each person as soon as possible. I don’t have the details to hand but my immediate reaction suggests little ‘inflation’ since 2008. I haven’t compared the line...

Tasting
I’ve recently decided to formalise my wine education a little. I started a WSET level 2 course this week. It has caused me to think a little about the focus when appraising a wine. I’m interested to know what others think. Historically I have spent a lot of time wondering whether the aromas I smell ...

Re: Crusted Port Wine Malvedos 1958 in Magnum format
Wolfgang, I’m not sure what you paid for it but I wonder if a bottle like this would be worth the trouble of faking? Or has the scrutiny of more valuable wines pushed fakers into new markets? I don’t know the answer to either question but if you choose to open it with TPF friends I’d love to be ther...

I managed to track down a branch of Aldi which had some bottles of the Maynard 1992 LBV in stock (available through their website too). I've given up trying to find a bottle of the mythical 40YO tawny @ £30 but I did also buy a "Maynard 100 Years of Port" pack consisting of 4 x 20cl bottles contain...

1981 Warre LBV
Drunk 7th November 2017. Utterly fabulous. I’d say this is my sweet spot for maturity. Still plenty of body and fruit but elegantly so. Just becoming possible to see through a glass. I’d speculate that on 10 years time AHB might find this to his style. I think perhaps a Warre LBV vertical might be a...
