NV Quinto do Portal Fine White

Pale golden yellow. Served cold so very subdued on the nose, but showing a little fresh pear. Sweet pear on entry, bringing with it delicate flower perfume flavours and hints of tannins. Lots of pear shows on the late palate, but this port is overwhelmingly sweet. 80/100. 24-May-17.

NV Pocas Junior 20YO Tawny

Dark orange colour, 30% opaque. A nose which is somewhat unpleasant being full of VA and resin. Much nicer on the palate bringing bruised oranges and a pleasant late palate, better when air is drawn over the palate. Despite the lovely aftertaste and spicy juniper finish, this is overly sweet and lac...

Deep red with a wide rim. Fresh and youthful nose full of sour raspberry and redcurrant. Silky texture in the mouth with soft fruit that wraps around the tongue; the tannins are plentiful and generous. Great acidity keeps the whole port in balance. A lingering raspberry finish shows where the fruit ...

From Quinta & Vineyard Bottlers. Brick red colour, looking like a tawny reserve. Sweet rose perfume on the nose. Sweet in the mouth, a little hollow at first but develops nicely to show some fruit and some tannic structure on the late palate. Sweet, gentle candied fruit on the good length finish. Ad...

Brick red colour, 90% opaque. Virtually nothing on the nose other than a touch of heat. Gentle ripe fruit on the palate, soft and gentle with primary fruit, mostly strawberry. A sweet and elegant aftertaste with a bit of heat showing on the finish and a nice touch of chewiness. 87/100. 24-May-17.

Brick red colour, 90% opaque. An odd and offputting nose but if you get past this the entry is not much better being bland, soft and flabby. Hollow mid-palate but some life appears on the late palate. This bottle is rather dried out although a little sweet fruit and ripe tannin appears on the finish...

Deep red with a purple tone. A wonderful nose, absolutely stuffed full of fruit and flowers; a really delicious fragrance. Fruit leads the entry, fruit which is fragrant and lively, almost hiing substantial tannins. This will evolve to be an elegant and balanced mature port. 93-95/100. 24-May-17.

Deep orange colour, 20% opaque. Toffee apples on the nose, sweet but also hinting at being acidic. Sweet red toffee on the palate with a nice cleansing apple acidity. A nicely done touch of VA adds an element of complexity – it is so difficult to get the VA element right so it adds complexity but do...

Bottled 2016. Amber in colour, 15% opaque. Subdued nose showing a little fresh zucchini, of all things! Deep red with a medium rim, soft red fruit on the nose. Balanced on entry, dry and soft tannins mix with the dusty cherry fruit. Bottled in 1977 in a Wedgwood decanter in the shape of the Don. Pale gold in colour; a distinct nose of white port mixing plastic and petrol. Re: NV Pocas Junior 40YO Tawny

From a half bottle. Burnished orange colour, 30% opaque. Tawny style nose, big and pronounced and full of pistachio paste. Smooth on the palate with lots of honey and lemon; surprisingly dry. Dry ghosts of tannin show on the balanced aftertaste and a long honeyed finish of lovely sour citrus. 93/100.
