Re: Quinta Do Noval dating, help!

You have a bottle of Noval LB, which is a vintage character Port rather than a vintage port. It's difficult to date but there may be some folks on the forum who know when production of LB started and finished. The GR is a bottle maker's mark and has nothing to do with the monarch at the time the win...

Does anyone know how to post a photo directly to TPF from an iPhone? I was going to share with you all how nice the food is here.

Re: Mon 21 Aug

Here on my own, but not sad at all. W80 in the decanter (an amazing port, getting better and better) and suckling pig on my plate. Life is good.

1980 Warre

A bottle bought from the Bar Douro wine list, popped and poured at 17.00 and drunk over the following 2-3 hours. A bottle appearing to be recently released with a very new cork having little penetration of the port. Deep red colour with a medium rim, very youthful appearance; this has no brown or br...

Is anyone free Monday night in London and interested in having dinner either in Bar Douro or at Hawkesmoor for their £5 corkage on Mondays offer?

Map of Quintas in the Douro

Does anyone know whether the map which Jacob Head was working on that showed where all the (known) Quintas in the Douro are located is still available online? If so, does anyone have a link?

Re: Good news if you fly BA Club...

BA have always had a reasonable Port offer. If I recall from the days when I used to fly a lot and before they went buy-on-board, you could get Graham Tawny in economy, Graham LBV in Club and Warre colheita in First. I took a look back through my notes to see what Port I've drunk while travelling wi...

Re: Voice of the Vintage (1938), Gaumont-British

The BFI National Archive reports that they do not hold a copy of the film. There is a reference to the film in Volume 52, Number 4182 of Today's Cinema published on 31 March 1939, which can be viewed by making an appointment to visit the BFI Reuben Library . Contact with their chief archivist may po...

Re: Summer Thirst, Wednesday 9th August 2017

It was nice to catch up with people last night, despite the rain and the dreadful train journey home. Thanks to Mike for arranging everything, impeccably done as usual. Thanks also to everyone for bringing such a great selection of ports. I managed 1 point in the blind bottle guessing point - which ...

Re: Mystery bottle of ruby port

Cory, You should find that the contents of the bottle taste a little like barley-water — sweet, a little bland but with a grapefruit or green apple acidity that stops it from being totally unpleasant. As Derek says, these styles of port are not made to be aged in the bottle but rarely do they turn i...

Re: Emergency, Tuesday 1st August 2017

I will be present.

I can print, although I'll be travelling from Bracknell so unlikely to be early. As no-one else has volunteered to do so, I will.

I am bringing port. I briefly flirted with the idea of bringing not-Port — and then came to my senses. I decanted at 08.00.

Re: 21-23 June 2017: The Port Forum 10th Anniversary Celebration

Did anyone take a picture of or make a note of the bottle which Dirk Niepoort brought to the Confraria Gala Dinner? I'm not sure if the correct spelling of the producer is "Amandio" or "Armandio".

Thanks.

Re: Alcohol and health

I vaguely remember reading an article a couple of days ago that said drinking alcohol improves your memory.

I've been dry for five days now. Time to open the next bottle of port, I think. If only I can remember where I put the next bottle.

Sten, I had to smile when I read your post. I have absolutely no idea which shipper was bottled by either of these two wine merchants so I can't help you, but I really do hope someone is able to. I presume that you have already asked whether the two companies have any records which you might be able...
