Is anyone else planning to be at the Oval tonight? (Apart from KP.)

Re: It's just not cricket

According to the rumours, it rather seems that KP is texting du Plessis asking whether he is needed for the third test.

Re: Couriers

I have my own collection of grumbles for delivery / courier services and Phil's story of a phantom attempted delivery is so true - that was a delivery to my wife's work when no-one was at home to accept a delivery at 2pm on a weekday. My wife works in a school. However, I also take Derek's point. I ...

I'd stick with the green room for the moment, but enquire if the red room is available.

On Thursday night I tried a wine for the first time - one I had been keen to sample. What was it? Producer will do, don't need the year.

Alex - you need to sit this one out....you know the answer!
It took me a while to remember, but I did eventually.

Re: Thu 13th July - La nuit avant le jour de Bastille

Gents It has just come to my attention that there is a Twenty20 match at Lords on Thursday. Although the game is sold out, we may be able to get 3 tickets. If we can get tickets, would people be interested in using Lords as a venue for our offline on the 13th? Note that you are only allowed to bring...

I suggest a theme of "bring a blinded bottle of vintage port" unless you have something else you'd like to try?

Excellent, we are a quorum. Much more fun than being a quorum on my own.

Re: 1960 Feuerheerd

That sounds to me like the perfect port!

I'm not sure how I would feel to find a bottle of presumed Dow 1963 turned out to be Feuerheerd 1960. On balance, I think I would be pleased as it's a port I've never tried. Lucky you!

I could bring Warre or Gould Campbell — or a bottle of Cockburn 1977 which pre-dates the recent library release by SFE.

Thu 13th July - La nuit avant le jour de Bastille

Anyone free the evening of Thursday this week to get together and share some port? AHB IDJ Venue can be decided when we know how many people will be coming along, but will probably be the Boot & Flogger unless the team would like to suggest another venue which we could try at short notice. Or we mig...

Don't be afraid to be cheeky and reach out to your nearest wine merchant and ask whether there is an opportunity for you to try the 2015 ports before you decide which to buy. You never know, you could be lucky.

Re: 21-23 June 2017: The Port Forum 10th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday I visited the Croft Lodge where work has begun on the World of Port project. There is a very interesting exhibition of historic photographs of Oporto, Vila Nova de Gaia and the Douro that took me a couple of hours to brows through. There's also a room showing some of the architect's mode...

Re: 21-23 June 2017: The Port Forum 10th Anniversary Celebration

Friday morning I visited the Ramos Pinto lodge, where I had made an appointment to visit the museum (which is open to the public, but only by appointment). This is a really interesting snapshot of what the port business must have been like 100 years ago. The museum is made up of the office where cus...

A half bottle decanter - nice. That's got some class.

I'll probably open a Morgan 1991 this weekend. Or maybe a Churchill 1985. I have both standing up to be drunk soon.

Re: 21-23 June 2017: The Port Forum 10th Anniversary Celebration

And then on Thursday lunchtime we tried another new restaurant. This time we went to Casa Ribeiro Restaurante on the Praça dos Poveiros, which had been recommended to us for the suckling pig. They roast several suckling pigs every day, so it is always fresh and hot. We started with small pitta-bread...
