Re: Good places for vintage port by the glass in Porto and Lisbon?

I suggest that one place to try would be the Graham Lodge. Last time I was there the Vintage Room and the shop offered a small selection of port by the glass. I think I had Malvedos 1996 in summer last year.

Re: Wednesday 24th May - ABV

Erk! That's nine bottles between 6 of us and I have a 9am meeting on Thursday morning in London. I think (a) I need to do a JDAW and drink 9 pints of water before we start and (b) I need to find a room to stay in London overnight. Apologies, but I won't be able to print as I will be away from the of...

2015 Quinta do Vesuvio

1,000 cases produced. Deep purple-maroon, inky and dark; opaque. A classic Vesuvio nose, deep and brooding, full of fragrance and sweet blackcurrants if slightly restrained. Slow developing entry with masses of blackcurrant that fails to hide the powerful tannins. I love the complexity on the palate...

2015 Dow Senhora da Ribeira

700 cases produced. Maroon with a slight blue tone, opaque. A lovely fruit-forward nose with lots of blackcurrant and a touch of lavender; very nice but less pronounced than the Graham Stone Terraces shown first at this tasting. A joyous nose. Languid on entry, beautifully balanced with sweet fruit ...

2015 Graham Stone Terraces

400 cases. Deep red with a plum-purple rim; opaque. An incredibly concentrated nose that is full of sour cherry and blackcurrant; very impressive. Power and a huge level of acidity balances the deep and powerful fruit on the palate with multiple nuances and subtle layers coming through. There are so...

2015 Cockburn

Maroon with a lovely purple-plum colour, opaque. Subdued nose at first of lovely fresh fruit with depth and power. This opens up further with a little more time in the glass. Balanced and silky entry with a lovely texture. Sweet blackcurrant fruit and a delicious ripe tannic core. The blackcurrant g...

I've just found that Churchill Gricha 2012 has the year branded on the ends of the cork.

Re: The Port Forum Port Bucket List

Fonseca 1927 it is for me Track down a bottle of SW63 for me and we have the theme for a dinner "Bucket List Ports". Other 1963 vintage ports that I am aware of which I have not yet tasted include: Barros Butler Nephew Douro Wine Shipper's & Grower's Association Feist Ferreira's Quinta do Vesuvio G...

The overarching objective is to drink some interesting port in good company. Don't let rigid observance of the 'theme' distract you from that!
Excellent. I can easily cope with this theme clarification.

I'm going to find it a bit of a challenge to fit with both themes. I may have to ignore the ABV requirement if I am also going to make the "...for ABCD..." requirement.

Thu 18 May 2017 - UK Launch of the SFE 2015 vintage ports

Yesterday evening Paul and Charles Symington and Joao Vasconcellos presented the Symington Family Estates 2015 vintage ports which are being offered for sale this year. Alongside each of the 2015s was an older port from the same stable. The flights were as follows: 1) Dow Senhora da Ribeira 2015 and...

Re: Wednesday 24th May - ABV

Ben

Although Luke says we could fit 8 in the room, for us with our glass requirement I would strongly suggest no more than 6.

CPR said to me Tuesday that he would probably be available. Could we reserve a set for him until he has confirmed one way or the other please?

Re: Buying En Primeur

I'll piggyback off the OP. Which vendors do you experienced guys buy en primeur from? Any on the mainland? I've only ever bought from UK wine merchants and traditionally the UK has offered wine (and port) buyers very keen prices. You could buy from Berry Brothers knowing that you can store with the...

Re: Buying En Primeur

I do like John's approach. I agree with his view that Vintage Port is usually available quite easily for not much more than en-primeur price for a good few years after release. Just take a look at www.wine-searcher.com to check. For example, the last big declaration was in 2011 when ports were being...

Re: Thu 08 Jun - 67@50 2017

Given that 8th June is election night, is anyone else planning to spend the night in London and stay up to the wee hours to watch the results as they come in? If so, I'll try to hunt out a venue we could move to after the B&F closes.

Re: Thu 08 Jun - 67@50 2017

Thanks for the advice. I was going to use the 10th to confirm arrangements with B&F and then circulate menus etc. That works. My experience is that it is easiest to confirm arrangements when the place is quiet and the staff have the chance to take some time to work through things with you. If you'r...

Tony - if you've not asked the B&F for the glasses we'll need, it would be good to do so soon so they can check what thy have in stock and what they might need to get in temporarily. And they usually appreciate a food pre-order if we're a large group. I'd suggest you check on May 10th if the menu is...

I'm really pleased that you liked this port, and that you managed to track some down. I think it's a stonker and a real surprise for a small producer that I hadn't heard of before tasting their 2011 a few years ago.

Re: Hotel Price List of the Week

CMAG and I visited Bar Douro in Flat Iron Square, London, last night. As might be expected, they had a good wine list featuring a wide range of Portuguese wines including Barca Velha 2008 (@ £390 per bottle) and Quinta da Leda 2011 (@ £90 per bottle). Other than the Churchill 1997 (@ £14) I didn't m...
