Re: Warre's unfiltered lbv

You are quite right, the Sandeman masterclass started at 2000 and got younger. I have some 2011 Sandeman LBV but nothing else.

2005 Graham Malvedos

Deep red in colour, not mature but not very young. Smooth, sweet blackcurrants on the nose, gentle and not distinct. Smooth with a nice texture on entry; plenty of mature fruit balanced by firm tannins and soft acidity; nicely finessed and nicely balanced. Fruit dominates the aftertaste and then the...

NV Croft 430th Anniversary Blend

A lovely rich ruby red. Nosing of attractive bramble fruit with a bit of green leaf giving a twist to the sweet fruit. Nicely balanced on the palate with fresh but ripe fruit gently matched against soft tannins. A gentle perfume on the mid-palate emphasises the ripeness of the fruit, but with a fres...

BFT 2019 Tasting Notes

Purely for convenience, as people post tasting notes of the Ports and other fortified wines they tried at the BFT, I will try to keep a list of them here. I tasted the ranges from Villa Oeiras (Carcavelos) and the two producers from Pico (Picowines and Czar Wines) - not a bad wine between them! I sh...

NV Kopke 40YO White

Delicious and fragrant on the nose, really rich and lively. Sweet but balanced entry, elegant and refined. Deeply rich with wonderful acidity, full of concentrated marmalade depth. Complexity follows in waves on the very long finish. Wow! 94/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1½ hours.

NV Kopke 10YO White

Modest nose that is quite limited, a touch of apricot. A lovely body with a slightly thick texture. Sweet and round, just starting to get a little cloying before the acidity turns up late to give a modest and balanced palate. Gentle aftertaste and finish. 86/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1 hour.

NV Kopke Very Old Dry White

A limited edition of 350 bottles made from wines aged for at least 50 years. Golden green in colour; an oddly petrol nose — quite similar to the sort of nose you might expect on a mature Riesling. Smooth entry with an elegant texture. Dry on the palate with a slight green bitterness, the sort you fi...

NV Kopke Lagrima White

A darker yellow than the previous two White Ports shown alongside this one. Little on the nose but a very pleasant sweetness on the palate, with good tropical fruit; a palate that shows some nice layers of development. Nicely balanced aftertaste, sweet but with a lovely finish. 86/100. 16-Apr-19. Op...

Muted on the nose, what shows is slightly dirty. Hollow entry, a nice texture but lacking fruit. Pleasant marmalade on the persistent finish. 87/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1 hour.

Deep orange in colour. Over-ripe oranges on the nose, rich and concentrated. Lovely sweet entry, fruity but well balanced. Delicious and luscious. Slightly short aftertaste which fades quickly but comes back on the finish. Very enjoyable wine. 89/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1 hour.

2003 Kopke White Colheita

Dry on the nose with a little green leaf showing. Sweeter on the palate that the nose indicated, drier than the 2008 with plenty of fruit and good acidic focus; plenty of complexity. Vibrant aftertaste, complex with honey and dried sage; very long. 91/100. 16-Apr-19. Opened 1 hour.

If there's any interest in doing a double vertical, Luís Sottomayor gave me a set of bottles from the LBV masterclass he delivered at the BFT yesterday with the instruction to share them with the folks on The Port Forum.

Re: 2017 Declarations

Those of you who were at the b.f.t. yesterday, please could you post your thoughts and impressions of the 2017 Ports that were at the show. The producers who exhibited them are keen for knowledgeable Port afficiandos to create some internet presence for their wines.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Sainsbury have their spring sale on - 25% off when you buy 6 bottles or more, including fortified and sparkling wines.

That makes the Taste the Difference Vintage Port £15 per bottle and the Sandeman Unfiltered LBV less that £13.

2017 Niepoort

Deep purple in colour with an opaque centre and a narrow rim. Superb blackcurrant fruit on the nose, very sweet and perfectly ripe with a lovely esteva perfume. A wonderful balance on the entry with the fruit leading; fruit which is ripe and clean with no over-ripeness. Astonishing perfumed tannins ...

Re: UK Government Cellar List

The 2017/18 statement and documents were released in December last year, but I have only just found them. They make for interesting reading. A couple of key snippets that I've picked up are: - average value of the bottles in the cellar is about £100 per bottle; average cost is £13 - no Port younger ...

Thomas - I also have the view that there is not really any compensation that you are due. However, if you feel very strongly I suggest you contact BI and explain the issue. They may be willing to take the wines back and refund you your cost but unless you were relying on a description which stated t...
