Re: 2016 VP's - Wed 12 September

I suggest organising it as a self-pour walk around tasting. Put all the bottles on some tables at one end of the Red Room and people just help themselves to what they want, sitting down and taking notes as they wish.

Re: Hello from Lisbon

Ola RNR, and welcome to the Port Forum.

Those Coravins are a great investment (although I have also used Leibherr and currently use a EuroCave cabinet) but they need to be made expandable. However large a size you buy - it will be too small within a year!

Ah, back to the traditional "one quiz at a time" question. The monkey is clearly drinking Graham Crusted 2013 recently purchased from Sainsbury.

Re: Mon 13 August: Emergency

Ah, ok, it's the easy questions first... Taylor 1963 (Justerini & Brooks bottling) Smith Woodhouse 1977 (Magnum) Niepoort 1970 (dumpy bottle) Cockburn 1967 (Joanna bottling) Warre 1960 (Bottled by Grants of St James's - blue wax capsule) Fonseca 1985 (ex-cellars circa 2010) Ferreira 1963 (square-sh...

I’ve been corrected, you should be voting for wine of the night before guessing what the wines are.

If the monkey is paying attention, could he let us know what his guess(es) are for the 7 ports we have in front of us tonight for the photo launch of The Book.

I will attend, with a professional photographer who will probably not be able to stay later than about 7-7.30pm (so not staying for Port or food).

Re: Hello from Italy

Hi Pelitcka and welcome to the Forum. Please don't worry about your English — it's very good! I'm pleased we've been able to help with your learning of the world of fortified wines and you have chosen a very good book to study. And, of course, you would be welcome to join an organised tasting. You w...

I will seek permission. Do you need a professional photographer to attend the evening (and take up a seat as my guest, if he's available and if I'm given permission)?

NV Barros 10YO Tawny bottled 2018

Available by the glass from the Grapevine Wine Bar in Rye. Sweet and full of orange blossom honey. Lovely texture and a very nice palate but rather short finish. 84/100. Drunk 30-Jul-2018.

Re: Tues 24th July - Bring a bottle to share

The monkey’s prose won much praise, but his ability to identify ports tasted blind is very poor — and scored zero. Everyone else scored 1 or 2 points.

But we thank the monkey for his help.

Re: Tues 24th July - Bring a bottle to share

Voting has finished for WOTN. The monkey’s votes were nonsense. The monkey clearly has no taste.

WOTN votes (excluding the monkey) were PW 15, CPR 7.5, MPM 5.5, AHB 4.5, JDAW 3, IDJ 0.5.

I should arrive around 6pm but can’t print.

I decanted both bottles last night about 11pm and have kept them in the fridge or an insulated container as much as possible.

I have nothing to hand that is satisfactory. Would it be possible to adopt?
I was debating whether to bring two bottles. Why don’t I do so and one can be JDAW’s adoptee.

Re: Tues 24th July - Bring a bottle to share

If declaring, I declare that I will bring a glorious double magnum of Cruz 1989. Interesting. I had no prior evidence that Cz1989 had been bottled in a double-magnum. Well that would be because (a) you’ve never visited the Cruz cellars and (b) you didn’t get the big bottle rules changed until after...

Re: Cockburn Vertical, Tue 2nd Oct 2018

14 bottles for 14 people on a school night is appropriate. More is unnecessary, but desirable if rare or delicious. I would be very interested to try two bottles of 1975 Cockburn, from the same case, with the same fill level and the same weight, side by side with one having been given a long decant ...

And Cruz ‘89 has fooled many an experienced palate. It just needs the right place at the right time. But I won’t bring a bottle of Cruz ‘89. I promise.

Re: Cockburn Vertical, Tue 2nd Oct 2018

Gents, I have an option on two very old bottles that would take the cost per person from £240 to £300 including Port and tip for our friends at B&F. Food would be on top at cost. I await condition reports on the bottles in question but if they look good my intention it to include both. Neither of t...
