Re: Just saying hello...

Welcome to the forum. You'll fit in well here - you love port! As Simon (and no doubt Dia) has said, we like drinking port and we like sharing port with others. Please don't feel shy about putting your hand up (metaphorically) and asking to take a place at one of our evenings in London. We all start...

Re: 2015 Cockburn

True, but I was a little underwhelmed by it. Usually I find more structure in a youthful VP, but this seemed elegant almost to the point of being light. I wonder what the 1975 ports where like when they were first bottled? I didn't taste them, but I wondered whether they were like this. And don't ge...

Re: Thursday 2nd November - 1970

Unfortunately I can no longer make this evening which, given the theme, I am gutted about. Better move me to the "Would like to, but can't" list.

Sorry folks, the Graham 1970 is now needed to console me in my sadness at missing what will be a collection of no doubt fabulous, vintage ports.

AHB: some time late on Thursday afternoon, when it is too late for people to change what they are bringing, please would you post here what is to be the monkey’s guess. Thank you.
It will be my pleasure. I will try to remember to do so!

Really interesting. I've not seen this before, but it should be enjoyable if you open and drink it. If you do, let us know your thoughts on how it tastes.

2015 Cockburn

I had the opportunity to spend an extended period of time tasting a bottle of Cockburn 2015. My overall opinion on this port is that it is pleasant and elegant but a little simple to be a great port. The fruit is round and gentle, the tannins so soft and hidden as to be only discernible on the after...

Are you thinking of the Family Reserve colheita, which is only available at the Quinta? The 1992 vintage port was made, bottled, sold and distributed just like most other years.

Re: Good news if you fly BA Club...

It seems that the change to Graham 6 Grapes is happening. In the T5 BA Galleries Lounge (North) there are two bottles of Graham 6 Grapes. In the Galleries Lounge (South) there were two bottles of Graham 6 Grapes and one bottle of Warre 2000 colheita bottled 2017. There are now two bottles of Graham ...

Re: Graham's First Flight 2003

Still not in T5. The only port for sale is in the duty free shop and is a dull choice of bottles:
Graham 2012 LBV (filtered) @ £14.39
Graham 10yo tawny @ £16.49
Cockburn Special Reserve @ £12.30 (for a litre)
Kopke 10yo tawny @ £19.99

Re: Cheese with port. Advice required

They do still make Lord of the Hundreds.

I would recommend one of your local cheeses - Sussex Charmer.

(I know it's too late, but for reference in case someone else in the future wants a cheese suggestion to match a 1967 colheita.)

I am an unlikely, but possible. I will seek permission. It is the one day next week that I might possibly perhaps be able to make.

To facilitate decanting and pre-pouring, I've just printed the neck tags, cork display sheets and pre-pour sheets so — whoever is printing — please save yourself some weight and only print the voting sheets, placemats and tasting note sheets.

Couldn't you just tap the bottle, and when the sound of the tap changes you know that's where the level of the liquid is?

Re: Tue 10 Oct - A Gould Campbell vertical

Food order looks sensible, but I haven't matched it off against the posts above.

My only question is about the strike through of the "no egg" on Ian's order - could that confuse the kitchen resulting in them not knowing whether to include it or not?

I can bring either Calem or Gould Campbell. Which is preferred?
Calem please. I've only had that once before and that was nearly 9 years ago.

Re: What do you have most of?

If we're only talking about bottles that I have to hand in my 'cellar' at home then (having undertaken a recent inventory) I don't have double figures of any bottle as I have been trying to concentrate on breadth rather than depth; the most I have is nine bottles of the Sainsbury TTD 03. And what i...

Thu 28 September - Port at the Boot & Flogger

On the 28th September, a small group of us got together to share some port - the theme was to Bring Something Like Port to Share (Blind). 8 was a perfect number, meaning that there was plenty of each port to go round. The monkey guessed that everyone had brought Dow 1970 and managed to score 1 point...

1992 Quinta do Vesuvio

Bottle number 4534. Deep red colour with an opaque centre. The youngest looking of the ports drunk this evening. On the nose this delivers lots of black cherry. The fruit is slightly restrained on entry, but has a delicate fragrance and plenty of tannins to provide structure and balance. A slight fi...
